That was until I stumbled upon Pho Galaxy. I hope you are able to understand the importance of this encounter. This made me re-evaluate my immature self. This pho was so good I got on the table and did an Irish Jig. I cried so loud from the deliciousness of the food, that my mom back in Surrey told me to keep it down. Absolutely blew my expectations out the water, and I will definitely be back again!
All of the staff are really nice and there was no issues but maybe it’s a language barrier which I hope that they invest in having that become not a big issue because I asked about an order that was missing and the lady was just pointing out my plate, and I was trying to explain to her that no, I was missing food, and she counted what I had on my table and walked away, which I found rather rude. I had to fly down the young waiter to go look into my missing food. I know it wasn’t intentional, but if the waitress had the ability to communicate, then I wouldn’t have had to look for a second option.
Also, once you get your food, most of the staff is very unattended. We broke our glass. There’s glass on the table, and I had to get up to tell the staff who we were chatting and didn’t seem to care we were leaving, but it was just really frustrating to see the lack of service. When the glass breaks the first thing the staff should do is check on the customer clear the glass, provide napkins, etc. etc. none of that was done. And then to be expected to tip 18 or 20%, which given the service I did not.
Well, we’ll be back but definitely hope the service is improved by that time
My boyfriend and I each ordered the special number 2 (we chose the #24 soups), I opted for a spring roll and he couldn’t decide so opted for the salad roll and we ordered an extra set of spring rolls. Taxes included, before tip was right around $44 which in my personal opinion is worth every penny, plus some for the quantity and quality. We love Pho Galaxy ❤️
I was so excited to eat at pho galaxy tonight because they just opened their new location, I always loved pho galaxy but the old location was a little tight especially when I have to come with a stroller so we don’t go there as often as I would like. Anyways today we finally went to try out the new location. Now, we have to wait to be seated which is totally fine, the waitress was cleaning the tables for us to be seated and once we were seated it took them 10 mins to give us the menu. When I asked the waitress for the menu she just gave me the meanest look ever. There are 2 waitress there that always have the meanest most angry pissed off face. They definitely made my experience super super disappointing. This isn’t their first time giving attitude or giving us a rude disgusted face they did this also at the other location. Mine & my husbands mood was completely ruined from their service. As much as I love pho galaxy it is time for us to stop going there as the service is total trash from the waitresses. NOW! I get it, it’s busy, they’re tired they’re been on their feet for who knows how many hours BUT youre working in a restaurant, a NEW location, you know it will be busy, you’re in a costumer service type of job regardless of how you are feeling you should make your costumers feel welcomed, you most definitely shouldn’t make them feel like a bother as they’re walking in. I also work in a costumer service job and no matter how shitty or tired I am feeling I do not take it out on my clients. People come to restaurants to eat with their families to enjoy their time they’re paying money that they work hard for to have a good experience and eat good food. Unfortunately that was not what happened for my family and I.
Word of advice to the owner, you should try to hire people with more costumer service experience. It will help with your business. Both you and your wife are amazing people but your employees need extra training on their costumer service skill. I am positive I am not the only one that sees the attitude from them.
I’m very happy and glad to see this place prosper. The new location I think was a positive change. It’s definitely suited better for a high turnover restaurant. The uniforms look sharp and so does the restaurant.
My one and only lament is the bowl of pho I was presented with was not Al’s signature recipe. It was heavily over seasoned with anise. The broth was thin and lacked the richness that I’ve loved so long. One thing about Al’s recipe is it always had a little extra “stank” of fish sauce that really set his apart. It was never dominated by anise and always had a hearty balance.
The rest of the food was on par for most part. My pho soup is lost to me now and I weep in it’s passing. It seems pho Galaxy has moved on to a more commercial setting than that wonderful little hole in the wall that was all flavour and chaos.
I will always remember Al and what he started in fond memory of what he gave to us. I love you Pho Galaxy and you will be missed dearly.
Update: I couldn’t accept that Al’s soup was lost to me. We came back again and the soup broth was on point. Sigh of relief because there is no place I value more than Pho Galaxy. We got to see Al again and it felt right to see the captain at his station. Looking forward to the next 15 years!
