First time at Osteria Via Stato and we had a wonderful experience. It’s such a beautiful restaurant with warm cozy Italian vibes. We had a big group and everyone enjoyed dining at Osteria.
The menu has a nice variety and we tried a bunch of the items. We started with the garlic bread, calamari and their famous thin crust pizzas. Each of them was a 10/10. For the main course we had the seafood stew, three different kinds of pasta. For the sides we got spinach and potato fingerlings. The food was absolutely delicious. Everything was freshly prepared and was bursting in flavors.
Our server was great and conscious of our dietary restrictions. He made great recommendations. We were so full with the best meal that we had no room for dessert. We need to go back again and this time I need to save room for desserts. Highly recommend this place.

I celebrated my birthday dinner here, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and took the time to thoughtfully explain the menu, offering great recommendations and making us feel well taken care of throughout the evening.
I ordered the ragu, and it was cooked to perfection—rich, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. To top it all off, they surprised me with a cheesecake for my birthday, which was absolutely phenomenal. It was the perfect ending to a truly memorable night. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Visiting from Florida for a concert, we made a reservation at Osteria Via Stato. We decided to take advantage of the perfect evening weather and dine on the patio. Our meal started with the Classic Caesar Salad (Romaine hearts, shaved Parmesan, garlic croutons), and it was crisp, well-balanced and a great way to begin. For my main course, I had the “Chicken Mario” (chicken breast with brown butter, fresh lemon and broccolini) and it was absolutely sensational! The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked, and the broccolini added a nice fresh, crisp contrast. My husband ordered the pepperoni pizza which was decent but not the best pizza he’s ever had. The service and atmosphere were outstanding: warm, attentive staff, lovely ambiance, and a clean, inviting space. I highly recommend Osteria Via Stato for anyone looking for great Italian cuisine and exceptional service in Chicago.

OVS was the perfect spot to host our wedding this past November! From the moment we first met with the team (and had our first bite of the short rib) we knew this was where we wanted to celebrate our wedding. It is warm and inviting venue that can handle a large, lively crew – all in the conveniently located River North. Natalie could not have made it easier for us during the planning process. Her calming and professional presence made the evening run so smoothly. They even let our pup be a part of the event. We had about 160 at our wedding and every single person left happy and full. We heard countless times from guests that this was “the best food I’ve ever had at a wedding!” The service team was so accommodating. We could not recommend the venue more for your special event. Already excited to go back for anniversary dinners to reminisce on all fun!

I don’t think I’ve ever had a pizza with a crust this thin in my life. And I’m not sure whether that’s supposed to be a compliment or an insult—so let me be blunt: it’s not a good thing. Dough is an essential part of a pizza. If there’s no dough, there’s no pizza. This was easily one of the worst pizzas I’ve had simply because you couldn’t taste the crust at all. Even the edges—where you expect a nice puff, some chew, some flavor—were paper-thin and so fragile they broke just by touching them. And this was the *happy hour* version for $9… normally $19, which is honestly unbelievable for what you get.
To make things worse, there were no happy hour cocktails. Just wine. Not exactly exciting.
We tried dessert as well. The tiramisu had good flavor but was overly damp for my taste. The butterscotch budino was delicious but far too sweet.
Overall, a very disappointing experience.

Always a favorite! Chef David cooking is so palatable and warms your heart with every meal.
The service is always lovely.
It feels like a true trattoria in Italy. Very comforting, very relaxed, but delicious.

My wife and I had a great time here. They made room for us at 6:30, even though we didn’t have reservations. Our meals (short ribs and gnocchi) were most excellent. Certainly the best gnocchi I’ve ever had!
The service was polite and prompt, and the busboy/expedite was attentive and quick.
Definitely worth a try, and I’ll bet you’ll be going back for seconds.

Amazing Italian Spot!
We came for our anniversary and daughter’s birthday—everything was perfect. The food was delicious (though we felt it was missing a touch of that classic Italian flavor), the wine was great, and the service was outstanding.
Our waiter was very professional, explaining each dish, the ingredients, and even letting us know about happy hour deals that saved us money on drinks and appetizers. The cozy, European-style atmosphere made the evening feel truly special.
P.S. We were surprised with free desserts for both occasions, complete with candles—such a thoughtful touch. Highly recommend! Perfetto!

We held our wedding at Osteria Via Stato in October and we had a great experience. The food, drinks, ambiance, and staff were all excellent.
Our event coordinator helped us along every step of the way. They were instrumental in us having the best possible night.
I could not recommend Osteria Via Stato more. They truly went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time.
