Me and my friend went there to try this new restaurant. Outside it looks inviting but they’re situated in a weird like crossing that if it’s your first time (which is the case), you will have a hard time finding the parking lot, and compared to their seating capacity vs their parking slots, I imagined it will be a nightmare on a busy night.
We go inside, excited as we are, we glanced on the food that is on their bar type presentation, small bar and the display foods are kinda so-so in my view. But we still went ahead and the server explained to us how it goes and how the ordering works and what is included on what we’re getting.
The ambiance is a modern Japanese look, cleanliness is really good, music wasn’t too loud and you can see all the people enjoying the food and we witnessed the staff singing 2 happy birthdays to their customers. Kudos for that.
The food, one of my favorite food to order if it’s available to any restaurant is takoyaki, and they have it so I ordered it and I was disappointed, but I told myself, let’s try the other food. We went to the “bar” and got the shrimp shumai and pork shumai. Again, I was disappointed as it’s the type that it’s not made from their store but rather was bought somewhere that is frozen as I used to buy them also like that before. We got the stone crab, there was only 2 in display so me and my friend got it, she liked it and it’s my first time eating stone crab so there’s no baseline comparison but they didn’t refill the stone crab again and my friend wanted another one but to no avail.
I liked their agadeshi tofu and their bao bun, we thought it comes in 2 as that’s what it shows picture but only got one, the tempura is kinda dry, the type that it has been sitting in the kitchen for a while and you can tell it by the texture
We ordered some sushi, and I used to work in a sushi restaurant before so more or less I am familiar with sushi quality and it disappointed me again.
I usually give the restaurants I review another shot and maybe the next time I come back, it would be a more pleasant experience.
The raw oysters were decent, though I personally prefer them grilled. That said, the overall food presentation really impressed me. I didn’t expect this level of plating from a buffet-style place — everything looked thoughtfully prepared and nicely arranged.
Our server was super sweet and attentive, which made the experience even better. There’s limited free parking next door, so keep that in mind.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend giving this place a try, especially if you love sashimi and uni!
The variety on the menu is impressive, and everything came out fresh and flavorful. The wagyu? Yum. Absolutely worth it. If you’re going to do all-you-can-eat, this is the way to do it.
Service was good — attentive without being overwhelming, and everything came out in a timely manner.
If you’re in Alexandria and want options, quality, and a fun atmosphere all in one spot, Umiya is a solid choice. I’ll definitely be back for that rooftop.
The foods were delicious and fresh. They made the foods very tasty and beautiful too. Our family agreed that it was worth every penny.
The restaurant was organized, clean, and fresh. We will come back.
The restaurant itself is spacious, and the service was quick and efficient, which made the experience comfortable. However, there is some room for improvement when it comes to hygiene. Although the dining area was very clean, I noticed one server wiping multiple tables (including ours) while carrying used , dirty napkins from other guests. Seeing this during the meal was a bit unpleasant.
The restroom could also benefit from more frequent cleaning.
Aside from these points, the food was solid overall, and having two parking lots made parking very convenient.
The wagyu served per table was the best part. It was delicious. The sushi itself was just average. Overall, it was a nice experience, but be prepared for a bit of a wait due to how busy it is.
