Walking into Wolfgang’s Steakhouse should evoke the promise of a classic dining experience — polished service, refined dishes, and an inviting atmosphere. Unfortunately, my recent visit fell far short of that expectation.
Upon arrival, I was met not with a warm greeting but with a dismissive attitude from the hostess. When I informed her that I’d be dining alone with my service dog, she curtly suggested seating us outside on the sidewalk. I explained that my dog was a trained service animal and that I preferred to dine indoors. She then demanded to see documentation — which, while not legally required, I had with me and presented. Only then did she reluctantly seat me, tucked away in a corner by the door — a spot that felt more like an afterthought than a welcome.
My waiter never introduced himself. I repeated my order twice, requesting that my soup be served before my salad. He did kindly offer water for my dog, but when some spilled, I offered to clean it up; he declined, saying he would take care of it. He never did. My service dog was left lying in a small puddle for the entirety of our meal.
When my food finally arrived, both the soup and salad were brought out simultaneously, despite my clear request. The restaurant was nearly empty — only four other diners in this dining area — yet no one checked on my table once. The hostess and multiple waiters attentively hovered around the other guests, refilling glasses and engaging in conversation, while my table remained entirely ignored.
The French onion soup was the one redeeming element — rich, flavorful, and properly balanced. Sadly, the lobster salad was the opposite: a mound of unseasoned meat atop a tasteless bed of greens, accompanied by an egg and tomato, but no dressing. The presentation mirrored the service — careless and unrefined.
No one refilled my water. No one asked if I wanted a drink or if my meal was satisfactory. When it came time for the check, I had to flag down another waiter entirely.
I left a minimal tip — a rare occurrence for me, as I typically reward good service generously — but this time, it felt necessary to reflect the experience. On my way out, I expressed my disappointment to the waiter who processed my bill, explaining that the food and service at Wolfgang’s have declined and that I would not be returning unless the staff learned to treat all guests — including those with disabilities — with kindness, professionalism, and respect.
Fine dining is not simply about the food; it’s about dignity, care, and the hospitality that turns a meal into an experience. On all these fronts, Wolfgang’s failed.
⭐ Rating: 1.5 / 5
The food was completely unacceptable for a restaurant of this price point and reputation:
• The steak arrived burnt on the outside and had literally zero seasoning—no salt, no pepper, nothing. It was flavorless and inedible.
• Sides and everything else on the plate were equally disappointing.
Service was even worse. Our server was openly rude, dismissive, and gave off strong vibes of racial profiling. He barely acknowledged us, provided attitude throughout the entire meal, and treated other tables noticeably better. It was uncomfortable and unacceptable in any restaurant, let alone one that positions itself as fine dining.
For a $150– 200+ per person check (before tip), this level of quality and treatment is embarrassing. I’ve had far better steaks and service at half the price elsewhere.
After years of loyalty, this single visit has completely lost me as a customer. If you’re looking for a proper high-end steakhouse experience where you’re treated with basic respect, go literally anywhere else—Ruth’s Chris, Morton’s, STK, or even a good local steakhouse will be a much better use of your money.
Extremely disappointed and will not return.
The service is excellent—attentive, friendly, and well-timed without ever feeling intrusive. A lot of that credit goes to Millo, the General Manager, who clearly takes great pride in the restaurant. Millo is visible, engaged, and genuinely cares about both the guests and the staff. It’s rare to see a manager so involved and personable, and it truly elevates the entire experience.
The food is outstanding and consistently high quality. Every dish we ordered was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and well presented. You can tell the kitchen uses quality ingredients and pays close attention to detail. Everything came out exactly as it should, and the portions were generous without sacrificing quality.
The overall experience at Wolfgang’s is what sets it apart—great food, great service, and strong leadership. It’s a place that feels well managed, comfortable, and reliable whether you’re there for a special occasion or just a great meal.
Highly recommend Wolfgang’s to anyone looking for top-tier food and service in Somerville. We’ll definitely be returning.
