Reviews
The egg was a bit overcooked. The bacon was smoky and good, and the York was good.
Fish and crips
The fried portion was slightly burnt and overcooked. The fish was a bit dry, but the spice served with it was good.
House-made Chips
Great portion size with perfect seasoning. Nothing was overdone, and they were nice and crunchy.
Buffalo Chicken Wings
The chicken was really good and well cooked. The sauce was nice, but not necessary—the chicken was enjoyable on its own and crunchy.
Fries
Nice and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. A good choice.
The Peasant Minis
Comes with two mini sandwiches with a very small slice of rib meat. However, it did come with a side of fries. I did enjoy it. Taste was good. Price was ok for how small these were. The entree version comes with four mini sandwiches, with no fries- that isn’t worth the price.
Happy Hour:
All of these items were from the happy hour menu we tried.
Parking:
Street parking is available, with some spaces in the back and on the side. Metered parking—check the signs
The menu offers a great selection of dishes that blend comfort food with a creative twist. We started with the Truffle Fries, which were crispy, golden, and topped with just the right amount of truffle oil and parmesan—absolutely addictive. For the main course, I went with the Braised Short Ribs, which were tender, rich, and packed with flavor, served with mashed potatoes that were smooth and creamy. My friend had the Grilled Salmon, which she loved—perfectly cooked and accompanied by a refreshing side salad.
The drink menu was also impressive. I had a Spicy Margarita, which was just the right balance of heat and citrus, while my friend enjoyed a classic Old Fashioned—both drinks were expertly crafted.
The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel like we were their priority, without being overbearing. We had a great experience overall and left feeling satisfied, happy, and already planning our next visit.
The Local Peasant is definitely a standout in Sherman Oaks, offering great food, a great atmosphere, and fantastic service. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun, relaxed place to enjoy some delicious food and drinks!
Off the bat it is just any other generic Restobar. Minimal decor means you can easily forget what restaurant. Even the exterior of the place offers no hint that it is even a restaurant thanks to lack of signage. The waiter we had was polite, attentive, and probably the only highlight of the visit.
The food, while tasty, was lacking. We started with the Truffle Macaroni and cheese with bacon, which turned out to be Penne Pasta in a runny alfredo. I have no clue why anyone would call this Macaroni and Cheese when the cheese is simply a runny sauce that was more truffle than cheese and the Macaroni is a completely different pasta. Also, to pay extra for Bacon on it and there be maybe a quarter of an ounce of bacon is insulting. Overall the Macaroni and cheese is a collosal failure. Just call it Penne in an alfredo sauce and you’re off to a better start, however, even then the sauce was too runny and you still have the insult of paying extra for bacon and having no bacon in it.
I had the Fish n Chips for my main. The chips were larger than I’d normally prefer. I feel all of them could have been cut in half and still been large chips. As they are, while the outside was crisp the chips are too large to get that really good pillowy inside. The fish were also good. Good breading, Good crisp, good flavor, but they delivered it on a metal tray which was considerably cooler than the fish, therefore condensation quickly formed so the entire underside of each fish because soggy and they fell apart. Not only did they fall apart because of the failure of the breading to stay crisp, it felt like these were hunks of fish that were slapped together. Each chunk quickly came apart from the whole as you eat and without a truly crisp breading to keep them intact, they just fall to the plate creating a mess.
Overall this place seems to exist purely for the sports crowds. Come in, get drunk, watch the sports ball, and enjoy overpriced almost there food.
If you’re looking for a place to actually eat though, there are better options around.
They have some of the best onion rings here! The fish taco was really crispy. I got steak frites and omg it was THE best I’ve ever had! The chimichurri was super fresh and garlicky, the fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, and the steak was cooked to a perfect cool rare temp as requested! I loved that it was actually rare because most of the time when I ask for rare, it comes out medium rare at best at any other restaurant. It was the most tender steak I’ve had for steak frites! The drinks were really good. They have a pretty good selection of beer and a lot of different cocktails. The Swiftyni was on the menu and I just had to try it! It’s a very tasty drink! Definitely recommend this place for dates, group gatherings, and just casual dinner with friends. Great food and drinks!
They have a nice menu. We enjoyed several beers and deviled eggs & bacon, solid choice, German pretzel, slightly overcooked but okay the sauces were tiny, sliders and fries, thee fries were delicious, and fish & crisps, the fish was very very good and the vinegar sprayer was a nice touch.
Service was great and atmosphere was better than average.
All in all $75 including tax, title and license.
We will be back but not toooo quickly.
Cocktails are well balanced and strong.
The housemaid pickle is phenomenal, bacon and eggs so good, pork belly could have more steeped in flavor but still really good, and the mini sliders are perfectly sized.
The cinnamon whipped cream for the Irish coffee has so much gelatin in it it cannot melt into your drink, and the mouth feel is pretty bad. The no-bake cheesecake is not a cheesecake at all, texture or flavor-wise. And the flourless chocolate tort is served warm which means the texture is more pudding-like than tort.
