Went for late night enticed by the buck a shuck offer. But inside menus corrected to $1.50 then they were out of stock when we went to order.
The ebi mayo, they didn’t devein the shrimp and the shell was still left on for one of the shrimp. Menu advertising high end prices but the quality doesn’t match.
Good spot for drinks though. Cheap drinks.

We went to Kamei after seeing the dine out menu promoted on instagram reels. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the seat we got was really nice, it was in a cute booth that was enclosed other than the entrance.

Unfortunately after we were seated we were never asked if we were ready to order, maybe due to the staff not being able to see us. Eventually I went to ask them to send someone to our table. They seemed like they may be understaffed since the staff taking our order seemed very rushed.

After we ordered our food came pretty quickly, until our second main course, the blue fin kaisen don, which took awhile to arrive. One of the staff gave us miso soup unprompted and apologized for how long it was taking. We weren’t upset but it was nice that the length of time the dish was taking was recognized.

Crispy Cucumber: 4/5

The crispy cucumber appetizer tasted pretty standard, I enjoyed how thin and long the strands are, and the crispy onions are a nice touch.

Beef Tartare: 5/5

I may be biased because I love beef tartare but this tasted great. I love the wasabi in the tartare it gives it a nice kick.

Sashimi Platter: 4/5

I like sashimi in general and the sashimi here tasted very fresh. I especially liked the salmon sashimi. The saba was alright.

Roast Beef Donburi: 3/5

This tasted good and the beef had a nice beefy flavour. The sauce and egg yolk worked well with the beefy and rice. Unfortunately the beef was quite tough making this dish difficult to eat.

Bluefin Kaisendon: 4/5

This one was good, but seemed a bit underwhelming compared to what I was expecting. It was 8 thin slices of bluefin on rice, and a small amount of ikura. Three of the slices were toro. I felt a bit mislead because the amount of ikura in the reels promoting their dine out menu was much more than what we were given.

My last image shows what was shown in the reels I saw promoting the dine out menu. After reviewing a couple reels, the dish looks like an entirely different dish, but in both reels I watched they referred to it as the bluefin kaisendon.

Overall the food here was good, but I was a little disappointed in the service and our food compared to the representation we saw online.

Rarely in this neighbourhood, but dined at Kamei on Broadway as part of a group lunch. Had the Unagi & Sashimi (lunch menu combo for $19.95). Good lunch portion. The tempura came fresh and hot, and there were 5 slices of sashimi. The unagi was marinated well! One diner in our group had their order come out much later than their partner, despite ordering at the same time (it came out shortly after they inquired, so we wondered if the order didn’t get put through).

Despite that, we found their combos to be a fair, average price, and you do get a variety of items. Our teapot was topped up, when asked. They have paid street parking and an underground parkade. Located a block over from the busy West Broadway and Cambie corrider, but Kamei is set inside a plaza, so a bit removed from the bustle. Overall, we had a good lunch here and would recommend!

Came here for dinner and just caught their happy hour in time! Their beef dish is so good I’m craving for more already. Pitcher was $17 for happy hour and the sashimi platter was $45 with decent selection of raw fish options

I recently visited Kamei on Broadway and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience.

The food quality overall was not great. Several of the sushi items did not taste very fresh, and the texture of the fish and rice felt off compared to what you would normally expect from a sushi restaurant.

Some of the flavour combinations were also strange. One of the rolls included mango, which completely overpowered the sushi and made it taste oddly sweet rather than balanced.

The eel dishes were also disappointing. The sauce was extremely salty and overpowered the entire dish. At the same time, the egg lacked flavour and tasted very plain, which made the overall combination feel unbalanced.

The drinks were another letdown. The alcohol-based drinks barely tasted like they contained alcohol and came across very watered down.

Their happy hour was also disappointing. The portions were quite small and the quality did not feel worth it even at the discounted price. It felt more like a marketing gimmick than a genuine value.

The overall atmosphere didn’t improve the experience either. The restaurant felt dull and the vibe wasn’t very welcoming.

Overall, the food quality, drinks, and value did not meet expectations. There are many great sushi restaurants in Vancouver, but unfortunately this one did not stand out in a positive way.

The food at this restaurant was flavorful, well-prepared, and definitely worth the hype. However, I was initially very disappointed with the service. The wait for our food was far too long, and the staff seemed inattentive, barely checking in on us during the wait. The staff did make an effort to make things right by the end of our visit. They offered us a discount and complimentary desserts, which I appreciated. It showed that they cared about our experience and were willing to take responsibility. Hopefully, this was just an off day for their service team.

I would say it is a hidden gem on Broadway. The food is quite good with large portion. Price is on point (slightly on the cheaper side for what it is imo)

Lots of promotion/ long happy hour to find good deal and gives reason to visit 2nd time.

I know I will be back

came here with a party of 5 and were seated right away, in a cute giant booth where you take your shoes off and can sit on cushions! feels traditional

the food was so tasty! we ordered from one of the set options so it was a deal!

everything was fresh and we got to try a bit of everything. my fave and highly recommended is the oyster with cheese!!!!

free parking can be difficult as it’s street parking but that will depend on day/time, and i’m sure it’s easy to find paid parking if you prefer

I’ve been visiting this place occasionally in the late evenings, and I must say it’s fantastic for a casual Asian-Canadian comfort dining experience. The food offers great value, making it an ideal spot to bring your laptop to work or study while trying to resist the temptation to order everything on the happy hour menu. It’s a great place to spend quality time with a close friend or to gather a large group of friends for fun times, sharing memories and rounds of drinks.

The large, comfortable seating areas are a definite plus, and there are countless options to choose from on the happy hour menu—it’s truly a treat! Happy hour is offered at two separate times during the day: early after lunch and late at night until closing. The staff is always welcoming and friendly when they seat me. Overall, it’s a nice place to warm your belly on a chilly, rainy evening.
