I was here for dinner and I enjoyed it. Everything that I tried was delicious and the presentation was very aesthetic. Our server was excellent and attentive. The atmosphere of this place is also very nice. The food can be a bit pricy for what it is, but otherwise, it’s a pleasant experience. I would recommend if you’re in the area.

My wife and I were headed back to Columbia, SC after a short mountain trip, and we always make it a point to try places we’ve never eaten before. The Purple Onion popped up in our search, and honestly, the name alone had me intrigued.

We exited Interstate 26 and drove about two miles into town, where you’re greeted by a scenic view of a small, idyllic community. The serenity of the drive matched the feeling of pulling onto the main street—buildings that look like they’ve been frozen in time. It felt like stepping into Back to the Future, a reminder of when life felt simpler and families being together was just the norm.

Once inside the restaurant, we were immediately drawn in by the classic atmosphere and a staff that clearly paid attention to every detail of the late morning rush. We were taken care of by a young lady named Rose, who was professional, welcoming, and perfectly matched the energy of the place. She fit right into the experience.

It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to slow down and stick around to see what else the town has to offer.

And the food—phenomenal. After going back and forth, we landed on pizza, and I’m glad we did. The homemade crust was completely different from anything we’d had before—unique in the best way.

It was the perfect date at the perfect place. We’ll definitely be back.

Absolutely loved this place. We came into town for a short visit and stopped by for lunch. Chelsea was AMAZING! Love the atmosphere and the vibe was great! The bathroom was clean and that tells me a lot about a place so definitely will be visiting this place every time we come to town!!

Amazing dinner experience! With friendly service, flavourful food and welcoming ambiance – the Purple Onion has just become my favourite restaurant in the area. We enjoyed the starters and the trout and pork chop as the main. The bread pudding was INCREDIBLE. Not to mention there was fantastic live music. Such an incredible restaurant. Can’t wait to come back.

Alannah was my server during my solo dinner and she was fantastic from start to finish. Not only was she super friendly and attentive, but confidently made recommendations when I had questions.

The pork chop was fabulous, as was the Smoky Mountain cocktail, and tiramisu. One of the best meals and restaurants I’ve been to in the area so far.

Terrible experience. The gyro had no taste. Very bland. The Reuben was tough. The cuts of meat were really thick and difficult to bite into. I was really disappointed. I hope they work out their issues. I hope something changes or I won’t be back.

A small jog off the interstate, but worth the effort!! This was a cute little restaurant with a lovely casual ambiance. A great option if you’re looking for healthier food choices! Soup, sandwiches and salads. Food was very good and portions were generous. They had a nice covered patio and clean restrooms.

Such a fabulous restaurant and menu. Very considerable wine list too! It’s quaint, cozy and top notch food! We celebrated my birthday as a party of four for a late lunch. Wonderful and attentive service and care by our server Chris!! Delicious soups and sandwiches in great portion sizes. Three of us had The Vermonter and we all raved over the Hungarian fish stew and Spanish white bean with artichokes.
The sides were all scrumptious…taboullah & couscous, marinated garbanzo bean salad and yummy crunchy tortilla chips. Couldn’t get enough of the homemade pickles either.
We wished we had room for all the gorgeous desserts in the case. I heard the pastry chef is phenomenal. The creme brulee was the best I’ve ever had. “Compliments to the Chef” for real. A great variety and pizza options we can’t wait to try. Quality meats, cheeses, breads and presentation… and perfect temps on all the dishes.
We can’t wait to go back!! No wonder it is a classic, must-visit place on the map. Save some money for great souvenirs. T-shirts, hoodies, pint glasses, stickers and adorable ornaments.
