Reviews
I had the lamb chops for my entrée, but unfortunately each piece was cooked to a different temperature, which made the dish feel inconsistent. The vegetables also lacked seasoning, and the oil used in cooking gave them an off taste.
On a positive note, the service was good and attentive, and the prices are very affordable. Overall, it’s a budget-friendly spot, but the flavors and execution could use some improvement.
Something new to try in Savannah
As someone with a Levantine background, I was eager to try Troy Mediterranean Cuisine in Savannah, hoping for a taste of home or at least something close. Unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired when it came to authenticity and flavor.
We began with the mixed mezze plate, which was underwhelming. The falafel was particularly disappointing—it bore little resemblance to traditional falafel in taste or texture. The quinoa tabbouleh was a modern twist that I don’t mind in theory, but it lacked the proper dressing and fresh, citrusy balance that defines this dish. The baba ghanouj was passable, and the stuffed vine leaves were decent, though not exceptional.
Moving on to the mains, we tried the Mixed Grill/Kebab Plate and the Spicy Ground Kebab. Sadly, both were far from what they should be, and just not reflective of authentic Mediterranean or Levantine flavors. On the brighter side, the Lamb Chops Plate, Salmon Plate, and Penne Shrimp Alfredo Pasta Plate were surprisingly acceptable. While not particularly Mediterranean in nature, they were cooked well and tasted fine.
One highlight of our visit was the service. Our waitress, Hanna, was fantastic—warm, attentive, and receptive to our feedback. Her professionalism and hospitality made a clear difference in an otherwise disappointing culinary experience.
In summary, if you’re looking for authentic Levantine or Mediterranean flavors, Troy may not hit the mark. However, some of the Western-style dishes are better executed, and the service is commendable but I was not tempted to stay for the dessert.
