We had a fantastic time at Cap’n Cat Clam Bar! It was the night after a snow storm, we wanted seafood so we headed to the clam bar! We sat by the fire place, it was cozy! The waiter was friendly and attentive! He was great on the napkins & drink refills! The Piano player was fantastic and took our requests, and sang along with us! We were the only people in the dining area, which is unheard of! They are always packed! There were a few people at the adjoining bar area. We enjoyed the attention & our delicious meal! We took home dessert, which was delicious. We can’t wait to return!

Their seafood takeout is a rip off!!! They appear to up-charge people of color. This was my experience today. I ordered King Crab Legs that cost $149. I was excited and hungry only to get a small takeout box with 3 legs in it. Of course I went inside & asked what’s this & the man behind the counter (on the liquor side of store) tried to tell me that’s how it comes & the price was market value…. Smh! Of course I left peacefully but disappointed. As a person of color people already look @ you like you’re not gonna order much, then if you complain they make it seem like you are trying to steal or something. So before any of that happened I just respectfully left. I will NEVER order from here anymore! Food was but portions are trash & customer service was not great either look @ the photos. Food looks great but $149 for this??? No way!!! I coulda paid $80 for crab daddy shack & got bigger portions & more sides. I’m disappointed in this place.

Well, we came back and everything was even better! Got the snow crab clusters this time!

Food was phenomenal! We miraculously got a table right away because it was packed on a Saturday night! Our server, who is adorable, was running around the entire time we were there but never lost her smile or friendliness! As it was busy,it took some time for the food to arrive but it was so worth it! We had jalapeño poppers for an appetizer, but the best was the black mussels, steamed little neck clams, and Dungeness crab! Can’t wait to come back!

Food is always good, but we wish that all the food was brought out together. It’s been this way for decades. This most recent visit I was about to cancel the final item because we finished everything else. The waitress said she had held it back because the previous customers at that table wanted things brought out one at a time. We weren’t the previous customers and if that was an option it should have been presented to us so that we could make that decision.

Update: Our last visit was a little better, but the wait staff could be a little more attentive.

This place looks like a dive bar from the outside. It is also connected to the liquor store from the inside. The place seems dingy. Could use a good refreshing up. Food was tasty. We got a decent selection of foods. Small menu, not an issue with us rather have small quantity then a lot of poor choices. So my issues with the place- it’s too expensive for what you get. They aren’t accurate for the prices on the menu- chowder was listed For 11$ for a pint. We got charged 12$ for it. Waitress stated that was the price for Togo. So Togo is cheaper in here? It was not clear on the menu which you can see in my pic. Plus isn’t it illegal to charge more then you advised? Service was slow with not many tables, maybe 5 tables total. The biggest issue is that no where on the menu does it say that old bay will be dumped on some of the seafood. The last thing we got was a bunch of snow crab clusters which had a bunch of old bay on it. The waitress said they could “wash it off”, really those words. I’m not a big fan of old bay I think it’s a cop out, you have great seafood you don’t need to cover it with old bay. It takes over the flavor of the delicate crabs. Plus they put 20% gratuity on checks automatically. There is a sign saying due to Covid gratuity is added but they don’t say how much. This is straight up bullsh*t I have yet to come across any other restaurant doing this.

Portions are huge. Prices are very reasonable. Atmosphere is antique rustic vibe. We adore the talented piano players.(Don’t forget to tip them) Each employee that works here are incredibly friendly. Servers are on point. We are a table for two who need a 4 seat table to have room for our order. We get a cup of soup, they are all delicious, 40 steamed shrimp, New Zealand/black mussels, clams, raw oysters, and dungeon ous crab, and sweet potato waffles fries. We bring our own maple syrup to dip them in. If you do not like to wait, get there early.

I like the concept. I like everything about the atmosphere and the staff. Is a restaurant who only does seafood; oysters, clams, muscles and shell fish. Simple menu and right to the point. No this is fancy, as it should be. Areas of improvement. Slightly modern menu. Some of the stuff in there is a throwback to depression type food which needs to be pulled. Seasoning was basic, Old Baye everything, Quality was good, maybe just put a bit of a modem spin on things and it would be great.

Bridgette, oh Bridgette you did an amazing job serving my wife and I.

The only thing I can say is, try the lobster bisque and the clam chowder… AMAZING! Homemade and delicious. See video. Tastes just as good!

We had the raw oysters and steamed little neck clams. See video.

Full bar, old school, amazing old jukebox that’s a beautiful antique. See pics.

Enjoy!

Valentines Day last night offered a delicious red velvet cake as one of the dessert options.

Went there recently for my cousins birthday. They brought out a beer with a balloon for him to take home and the piano player sang and played happy Birthday.

Always a pleasure visiting Cap’s, the seafood is above average in freshness and the soups, particularly the Crab bisque, is outstanding.
