An amazing new food adventure, Hot Pot. This spot in the center of Boston’s Chinatown is a beautifully appointed establishment. Seating and decor were great. Service was nice, professional and fun. The lamb and chicken and veggies were fresh and the miso broth made everything taste delightful. Drinks were tasty.

Really pleasant experience! The veggie delight platter was plenty and the regular pork was great. The pork was flavorful, decently sized, and well priced. Service was top notch despite it being busy. Highly recommend!

A decent place overall—everything was just about average. It has more of a down-to-earth vibe rather than a fancy feel.

I wouldn’t say it’s on the “cheap” side either. We each ordered the “premium” beef, which is supposed to include 15 pieces, but as a woman with a relatively lighter appetite, I still found it wasn’t enough. We ended up ordering another regular beef plate to share. Altogether, the bill came to just under $200 for two people.

The food tasted good, but I would not order noodle – it was sticky and seemed stale, so we ended up not eating. Also, recommend “miso” soup base. My hubby liked it over sichuan spicy base

I’ve been coming to Shabu Zen since I was a kid—my dad would take me here when I got a really good report card 🙂 When in Boston, I always take friends and family here as a treat. The food is amazing and fresh and it’s a really fun experience, especially for those who haven’t had hot pot before. FYI—It’s much less busy at lunch time if you’re visiting with a large group. Highly recommend!

Always have good fresh food. Their hot pot set ups are convenient and easy to use. Staff is friendly and attentive. Great place to go with a big group or even single or small group parties.

The best hot pot in Boston! I’ve been a loyal customer for years. The soups are packed with flavor, even the plain house broth is surprisingly enjoyable. The boneless short ribs are always top-notch—whoever their vendor is, they deliver consistent quality every time. A must-try spot! Plus, the Allston location is just as fantastic.

I have been coming to this place for almost 15 years. The food has always been amazing. They did go up on prices but the food was so good I felt it was always worth it. When I go with my wife our bill is NEVER under $100. We always tip well and even clean our area before we leave. We paid the bill and my wife was alerted of the amount charged. We were overcharged by almost 25 bucks because the restaurant included the tip amount they thought we should pay. Per their policy parties of 6 or more will automatically be charged gratuity. But it was only 2 of us so that does not apply. After bringing this to the attention of the little man at the front he decided to blame the bank. He said the bank charged us that and we have to not dispute it with the bank. Well, my wife signed the receipt and we did NOT leave a tip because we were already charged for it. Fast forward to now the bill being settled. The restaurant updated the amount and STILL added a tip. Tips are voluntary not mandatory. I ALWAYS tip but since they overcharged I felt no need. But to STEAL from customers or charge whatever you want is crazy. It’s theft…. because of that my time is up here. I will NEVER eat or recommend this place because to spend so much and be stolen from is horrible. And to the man at the register who wasn’t helping. The way you spoke to me was rude, unprofessional, and outright disrespectful. To tell a 45 year old woman to not speak a certain way or to not say certain things is crazy. Not sure who you thought you was talking to but before I left I let you know I’m not the one or two. Next time just apologize and try to help instead of blaming the customer.

Broth and food are extremely fresh and high quality! Kind and friendly staff. Can’t wait to come back! Only thing I’d say is I wish there was a sauce bar. You’re provided soy sauce with a side of garlic and scallions. It is a very good base but I like how other places let you customize your sauce. Thanks for the great food!

Edit: I want to correct my mistake. I said that you aren’t able to customize your sauce. All I had to do was ask… duh! I asked for more garlic and cilantro and within 15 seconds I had it. What a great place!
