Attention to detail: They even serve water in two different types of glasses for the table so you never mix yours up with someone else’s!
If you’re visiting, you have to try these:
Paper Masala Dosa: Perfectly crispy and absolutely bursting with flavor.
Gunpowder Masala Dosa: Hits Goldilocks zone of spice—it’s appropriately spicy without losing the complex flavors of the blend.
Highly recommended for anyone craving an authentic Indian experience
Waiters and staff are cool – look out for Maven, Satish, or Mickey

A place I drive by a lot called Chennai Dosa in Hicksville, Long Island. Today was the day we checked it out. We ordered Podi Iddly, veggie cutlets & batata vada for appetizers. Then we got vegetable biryani, palak paneer, masala dosa, mushroom/onion/garlic Uttapam, Chennai rava masala dosa, roti, mango Lassi & Chennai coffee.
Chill spot & delicious South Indian food. Burst of flavors with all their dishes while not being overly salty. I loved my Mango Lassi which was thick and sweet. My dosa was huge! Like it would not end. It was perfectly crisp & flavorful.
They have a parking lot which is great. Staff is very attentive & helpful. The ambiance is nice and casual and also very clean. I highly recommend everybody to try their Palak Paneer. It was so delicious with fresh paneer cubes mixed in.
When ordering the food, my husband and I told them I was allergic to nuts. When the food arrived, I started reacting almost immediately and asked again if it had nuts. Spanish curly-haired waiter came back and told me the food had peanuts, which I have anaphylaxis to. I had literally taken the safety off my EpiPen when the waiter came back and said that the food had cashews, not peanuts, and therefore “there are no nuts in the food.” What waiter doesn’t understand that cashews are a type of nut?? Manager and waiter did not seem at all concerned about the situation. They brought out a new dish and then tried to charge me for it at the end, but I told them I wasn’t paying for that, considering they had basically poisoned me. My husband and I barely ate anything because we were both so nauseous—me from eating a few bites of food I was allergic to, and him from sprinting to buy allergy medication at a nearby pharmacy right after a medical appointment where he was told to “take things easy.” I don’t think the waiter who actually took our food out apologized at all, even though he is responsible for feeding me something I’m very allergic to.
The food itself was great, and the guy working at the counter was extremely nice to us and very apologetic, which is why I’m not giving this place one star. But they are extremely irresponsible about allergies and won’t comp your food if they literally poison you. My husband and I were seconds away from leaving in an ambulance.
When it comes to satisfying a craving for Indian food on Long Island, I think we can all agree that Hicksville has become the epicenter for this flavorful cuisine.
Today, I was in the mood for a Dosa, ( a fried crepe that is stuffed and rolled with a variety of and spices ) for lunch. One of my favorite places for a large variety of Dosas is “Chennai Dosas” located small strip center on Broadway in Hicksville.
I ordered the number 57. Paneer Pondicherry Masala Dosa. A spicy ️ crepe rolled with potato , paneer , onions , peas ,and aromatic spices The Dosas are all served with 3 types of dipping chutneys: a coconut chutney, Sangar: a spicy ️ lentil chutney broth with green peppers , onions , and a red pepper ️ chutney…each with very different flavors.
I also ordered a side of Poppadum ( a lightly fried lentil floured tortilla of sorts) which was light, crisp and delicious. It goes great with the sweet tamarind sauce that accompanied it.
Chennai Dosas is an authentic vegetarian Indian restaurant that has gotten strong reviews from Newsday and The New York Times . It is modest in decor with a very attentive staff and prices that are soooo reasonable.
When you want to expand your food horizons, give Chennai Dosas a try. And if you need help when ordering, don’t be Afraid to ask for assistance. See the menu in the pics below. Give it a try & Enjoy your journey.
I didn’t love the samosas as by the time I received my order they were a soggy mess, I think it would have been wiser to keep the toppings separate for a takeaway meal.
However, I really enjoyed the rest of the food. The saag paneer was something I’ve always wanted to try and it was delicious. The cauliflower tikka messala was very good too. Very reasonable prices was well. I would definitely go back again to try more things
