The soft serve is not really anything special (the blueberry was pretty good), the parking is atrocious, and the cheese curds weren’t cooked fully – they were all still cold in the middle. The fries were just okay and mostly soggy, and a small bag = large.
Also, weirdly, they also don’t have rainbow sprinkles but only peanut pieces mixed with rainbow sprinkles. I’ve never seen that at an ice cream shop.
The tables were covered in old ice cream that attracted lots of yellow jackets – also note, they only have 2 small picnic tables on the side. We asked someone inside for something to clean the sticky tables with or to clean it up, and they just handed us an old, nasty wet rag.
Conny’s also caters to canine companions with “pup cups,” with proceeds benefiting local nonprofits like Canine Inspired Change.
If you’re seeking a nostalgic ice cream experience with a community feel, Conny’s Creamy Cone is a must-visit in Saint Paul. Just be prepared for lines during peak times—but many agree it’s worth the wait.
The good: tons of flavors, you seem to get a lot for the price you pay (I actually wish they had smaller options for things other than the regular cones), and the ice cream is very creamy and tasty.
The bad: the lines seem to always be long and slow. Customer service is mediocre at best. All items in your order typically won’t come out together (we got our cheese curds, then my boyfriend’s ice cream almost 5 min later and mine another minute or 2 after that). The ice cream is super soft because of the flavoring, so it melts incredibly quickly… which combined with the large portion sizes really just leads to a mess.
They’re obviously staying busy though, so it’s working for them!
The staff is friendly and works through the line quick enough. It’s not really a place you can come and sit down to eat although there’s a couple picnic tables nearby that you can eat at if you want.
I haven’t tried anything but their ice cream yet, but based on their ice cream I’m sure it’s delicious! I’ll make sure to update my review if I ever do!
These aren’t huge gestures, but together they made the experience uncomfortable. I understand everyone has off days, but basic courtesy shouldn’t be conditional.
