We visited Port Hope for the day and started by admiring their charming downtown. We stumbled on this restaurant inside the historic Waddell Hotel, and it turned out to be such a great find. The building is old (in the best way), and you can actually feel its character from the echo in the dining rooms. It’s cozy, charming, and full of that Port Hope small-town warmth.
The menu is surprisingly extensive, with lots of classic Italian dishes — perfect if you’re craving pasta like I was. I ordered the Tuscan Gambertto: large tiger shrimp, chicken, nduja sausage, spinach, olives, all tossed in a creamy vodka sauce. It absolutely hit the spot, and bonus points for offering both chili flakes and chili oil. My friends shared the Brooklyn Pizza and Caesar Salad, and there wasn’t a single bite left on any of our plates.
The quality was great, the prices were reasonable, and the service was genuinely friendly. If you’re looking for delicious Italian food in Port Hope or a cozy restaurant with charm and history, this is a must-try. We’ll definitely be back.

A nice Italian restaurant located inside a hotel, right next to the centre of Port Hope. It got a nice patio outside as well as some inside seatings. The service was pretty attentive, however, it took over an hour for the dishes to be served – which was a bit on the slower side. The food was delicious though. We ordered the duck wings as the appetizer, and it was seasoned perfectly. It was flavourful, savoury, with a slight hint of sweetness. The mains we had were also amazing.
The pollo al pesto pizza had just the right amount of pesto sauce on it, and the shrimp & lobster amatricia was also filled with rich parmesan paired with the umami from the shrimp and lobster. It’s definitely a nice gem to find in a small town like Port Hope!

I’m giving this a 5-star solely on how delicious the food was. We came here on a Friday evening on the way to Kingston and were initially unimpressed with the wait time between seating and getting our orders taken. Food also took long between meals which was disappointing. However, every dish was so tasty that the service could be forgiven. The fish was mouthwatering and the entire dish was a holistic symphony. I see this as a hidden gem in Port Hope.

What a great find!
I had driven buy and heard of Trattoria Gusto numerous times, but this was our first visit. This restaurant is idyllically located right next to the Gararaska River and it can be seen and heard from the beautiful outdoor patio.
Service was good. Food was even better.
We shared a Brussel Sprouts appetizer, a spruced up Chicken Parmigiana for the main and a Lemon Mousse Cake for dessert. All of them were delicious and at reasonable prices given the quality of the food. Highly recommended!

Everything is good. It’s just the black flies are too much and too bothered. I sincerely hope the restaurant pay attention to this and don’t waste the good work of the staff, especially for a high end restaurant.

We followed up with the house pizza, and the Rigatoni a la Vodka with the best Rose sauce I’ve had in some time. Both excellent.
A lovely drive to Port Hope for a fine lunch or dinner makes a great day for us.

We had dinner here last night. It’s so amazing to find a beautiful restaurant with fresh, lovely, well prepared meals, beautiful staff and a comforting atmosphere which is consistently excellent. Shout out to Sara who always makes our day when we visit, Victoria who was our server last night and of course to chef and his amazing staff for a wonderful meal.
