I ended up calling the store to let them know, and in turn asked if I could come by the next day. The gentleman speaking was excellent and assured me I could, and I could swing by whenever.
Cut to tomorrow and they deny me. They tell me because I don’t know the name I can’t and they have no way to make my drink unless I buy another one.
Working in food service, I get it. A lot of crazies, a lot of rude guests, but I’m not one and tend to understand why some things may or may not be done. End of the day though, I am a paying customer and should receive my goods, especially when I do have my receipt and order number.
Ordered 2 double cheeseburgers through the app, which in of itself is pretty bad, and checked in at the time it said it would be ready. I then wait for an additional 20 minutes after the initial pickup time. I finally get my food, see 2 burgers are in the bag, and head home. Keep in mind I did not change anything on these burgers other than adding extra onion. Neither have ANY lettuce, pickles or ketchup. One had quite literally 3 peices of onion, but the other did at least have some. Both burgers had super dry patties as well, so I don’t really understand the crazy wait either.
I truly do not understand what’s wrong at this location, but I would avoid at all costs.
THEY DID IT!! (See pic)
What an awesome experience!! It is soo simple now. Thank you!!
EDIT:
Just happened again. First trip back in a month and same situation. This time it caused an issue. One stall available, not working. Not knowing what stall I’m at I just entered a random number (like usual) and waited to see my order come out. When I see my order (she is correctly going to the wrong stall) I try to let her know that is my order, but she just looked at me, told me what stall I was in, and took my food back inside. No way to change the stall number in the app, so I just have to wait in 100 degree weather while my shake melts and the soda waters itself down. Finally resolved after I had to physically call and explain the situation.
Put the numbers on the stalls in an analog way. The electronic way is not working.

The employees need to be given the support needed to keep customers happy. Every time I arrive at this Sonic (NW 63rd and Meridian) it is a parking nightmare trying to find a stall with a working screen. It is so impractical to have to pull through the drive-thru and then pull back around to park and eat if you don’t want to play whack-a-stall. If you order in the app, you just have to make up a stall number to check-in and hope they find you eventually.
This creates conflict before the customer has even been able to lay eyes on a menu, or interact with an employee (who are all great here, btw).
If your employees are dependent on tips to be able to pay their bills, the least you could do is not actively create barriers they have to overcome to do the bare minimum.
