This is a John’s Island staple. We had the French dip special and the fried pork chop both were excellent. Their sides are the star of the show and it’s really hard to choose from because they all are great. We had the butter beans, the squash casserole and mashed potatoes, all were great. Service was great, portions are generous and reasonably priced. Great spot!

First time ever going, the squash casserole is AMAZING. The place is cutesy very southern has a local merch right next to the tables. Think a smaller cracker barrel but way better food. They only have one restroom and the sink is on the toilet lid, something about the environment lol just be warned.

Stono Market and Tomato Shed is a must-visit if you are anywhere nearby. It is well worth the trip. If I lived in the area, I would be there at least once a week.
The environment is cozy casual and country as it gets. We were warmly welcomed, and put on a short wait list and offered a seat on the comfortable front porch swing.
We were seated, given menus, specials were explained and offered drinks.
The whole place has the feel of home. Multiple lovely waitstaff served us through our visit and the best I can describe the waitstaff – it is like being served by your favorite aunt
The flavor of my shrimp and grits was uniquely our of this world. A blend of savory sauce on top of creamy grits covered with plenty of shrimp. My wife’s Crab Cakes were properly cooked and generously portioned. As if it couldn’t get any better, the Tomato Pie is a must have savory tangy treat. It is offered as one of the sides.
When we were finished, our “Favorite Aunt” offered us dessert. We said we were full, but i asked if she could talk us into a dessert – she just said “No, if you are full, you are full, I don’t want to make you uncomfortable” I love that!
Please shop at the Stono Market there are a lot of local food favorites, sauces, prepared food, and vegetables. Unique decorations and cool books are also available.
I can’t wait to go back!

I thought this was a nice list place. In addition to the diner, there’s a small grocery shopping area that was really cool. There’s also a gift shop so it has a little bit of everything.
I got the Roast Pork and Gravy and my wife got a burger without the bun on top of a salad. I thought the food was good. We had just come from the Angel Tree which isn’t too far from the restaurant.
Give the place a try. Very nice waitstaff. They’ll treat you right.

The broccoli fritters were the absolute best. Great atmosphere for hanging out and having great food, the volume levels were just right. Fantastic, friendly service. Loved this place!

This place doesn’t need another review. Everyone already knows it’s great. An old tomato packing shed has been converted into a resturant/giftshop/produce market. If you look closely outside, you can still see where the train went by. That train delivered Johns Island tomatoes all along the east coast.
If you go, try the Tomato Shed Shrimp and get a side of Tomato Pie, my favorite.
Also, be sure to check.out the wash station in the bathroom. It’s a long story.

Stumbled upon this gem as passing by. An authentic lowcountry experience with the most amazing food I have ever had. 100% local produce. It was the most amazing burger I have ever tasted. Tried 4 sides as a veggie plate, and I highly recommend everything! I loved how they hosted and sold the local art and produce. Loved loved loved it.

I had heard many reviews and suggestions from a local facebook page to try this out and we’re glad we made the stop on the way back from the beach. No need to be dressed up, and perfect portions! You feel like you’re eating on your grandparents porch. I will say the tomato pie was a let down because I was expecting some sort of bread or crust to go with it but it was mostly onions and tomatoes. Great staff and knowledgeable on the food!
The shrimp plate was the best thing we ate there!

An old friend and I went to lunch. He enjoyed the fried flounder and sweet potatoes. I ordered a veggie plate. The cabbage/carrot dish was sort of watery and uneventful. I tried the tomato pie and was disappointed. Clearly calling this side a pie is bold. It’s more of a loose casserole. It’s not for me. The mashed potatoes were literally just that. Potatoes mashed. I detected some chicken broth I think. Now, the thing I looked forward to most was the squash casserole. It was an absolute insult to squash casseroles universally. I sprit out the first bite. Nothing else was that bad so I ate enough to fill up. The price was very reasonable. The store is nice. The place is clean and the staff is very nice, efficient and friendly. While I can’t recommend the dishes I ordered I’m sure they have some other good food. I think it was worth it.
