We recently visited Chowrastha and tried a variety of dishes — Poori Chole, Goat Dum Biryani, Dahi Papdi Chaat, Bhel Puri, and Pani Puri — and every single item delivered truly authentic taste. The flavors were rich, balanced, and reminded us of genuine Indian street and home-style cooking.
The place was crowded, which in itself speaks volumes about the quality and popularity of the food. Despite the rush, the service was efficient, and the dishes came out fresh.
If you’re craving flavorful Indian cuisine with real authenticity, Chowrastha is absolutely worth a visit!

We have always loved the food at Desi Chowrastha, infact this was first place we used suggest anybody who wanted to try Indian food, but the experience we have been having lately is extremely disappointing. Today my husband and I have ordered for a fried rice and Jalapeno chicken, our fried rice is literally drowning in oil.. like literally I think there’s more oil than actual rice. The Jalapeno chicken has so much food color that it stained our hands, that stain won’t go away even if we wash our hands multiple times. I wonder how dangerous it must be if feed these to children. Extremely disappointing.

Great place for a quick lunch or snack. The atmosphere is more like a “canteen” than restaurant. You order at the counter and go pick up the food when your name is called.
Quick tip – when they say spicy, it’s really spicy. ️
I enjoyed the samosa ragda chaat. The paneer Frankie was more like paneer bhurji in a roti. Would have liked to have some grilled onions and peppers in it.
The paneer biryani also just had paneer. While the veg biryani just had vegetables. Would have liked a combination!
The chai is awesome.

Chowrastha in Frisco never disappoints when it comes to authentic South Indian breakfast! The Mysore bonda was perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, served with chutney that balanced the flavors so well. The idlis were soft and steaming hot, pairing beautifully with the sambar and chutneys true comfort food. The highlight for me was the Guntur dosa crisp, flavorful, and packed with just the right amount of spice that gives a real kick. It’s the kind of dosa that wakes up your taste buds and makes the whole meal exciting. The portions were generous, the service was quick even with the busy morning rush, and the atmosphere with all the Indian flags made it feel like home away from home. Definitely one of the best spots in Dallas for an authentic South Indian breakfast worth every bite!

I ordered Indian street the fried rice and one of the worst experiences. It’s some biryani rice mixed with some sauces. Definitely not fried rice. I wish I could give 0 stars. When the biryani is taken back to the restaurant the response from the staff is not good. Prices are high, quantities have been decreasing and services are bad too.
Regret ordering this dish.

Ordered street style chicken fried rice at 11:20pm, they are open till 12am. They prepared fried rice with left over biryani flavoured basmati rice with food colour added. When asked about it, they said they prepare the ‘Street Style’ Fried Rice with Biryani Rice!!!
Never heard about this before and it doesn’t taste like fried rice at all…
Wouldn’t recommend having fried rice or noodles here, not worth it.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for a while, and the quality of the experience is going down day by day. The most frustrating part is that the food tray/portion sizes keep getting smaller, but the prices stay exactly the same.
Do they really think customers are fools and won’t notice? It’s very obvious that the quantity has been reduced over time. It feels dishonest and disrespectful to regular customers.
If they want to charge more, they should be transparent about it instead of quietly cutting portions. Until they fix this and start offering fair quantities for the price, I won’t be coming back and won’t recommend this place to anyone.

Ordered 2 Mysore Masala dosa. It was no where near a masala dosa. Soggy, the chutney inside the dosa was so spicy and raw garlic flavor.
I am from Bangalore and I know how a masala dosa would taste like. This was the worst masala dosa in my entire life.
Pls don’t order masala dosa from this place.
$28 down the drain. We trashed it and walked out.

Desi Chowrastha Fresco in Dallas is more than just a grocery store; it’s a great spot to grab a delicious and affordable breakfast. The breakfast buffet is an excellent value for the money, offering a wide array of traditional South Indian dishes. You’ll find a live counter where you can get fresh, hot dosas and pooris made to order.
The food is truly awesome, with all the classic flavors you’d expect. Beyond the buffet, you can also treat yourself to freshly made pastries and a hot cup of tea or coffee, which is a perfect way to round out your experience. Whether you’re there for groceries or a satisfying meal, Desi Chowrastha Fresco is a fantastic choice.

Finding a large glass shard in a curry is unacceptable and dangerous. This could have resulted in serious injury or worse. Such negligence reflects extremely poor hygiene and safety standards.
Customers deserve safe food, and this restaurant has clearly failed to meet even the most basic standards.
