The grilled chicken burrito was amazing. The place gets busy and the staff is accommodating. Certainly recommend if you’re looking for tasty tacos, a burrito and a margarita.
We made reservations for a party of four at 6:45 PM on a Saturday. When we arrived at the restaurant our table wasn’t ready ( which is not a huge deal ) once we were sat down it took about 20 minutes to get our drinks and put our appetizer orders in. When our appetizers came out they were missing items, for example we ordered queso and nachos, well the queso came out 10 minutes before the nachos, and obviously you cant eat one without the other. So we finally put our entree orders in at about 7:15 PM and they didn’t get served to us until 8:30 PM, ALMOST 2 HOURS AFTER WE ARRIVED. Our orders did not all come out at once, they sort of trickled out, naturally I got mine last and incomplete of course. Then we made the mistake of getting dessert which tacked on another 45 minutes, we did not leave this restaurant till almost 9:30 PM, DUE TO LACK OF KITCHEN SERVICE. Thank god we did not have any plans after, because they would have been ruined.
The restaurant itself was extremely noisy with loud music, the food itself was good but it was definitely not better than others. Personally I don’t think I will be going back anytime soon. The amount of disrespect for customers time was appalling, if everything was going to take forever they should have made us aware prior.
We were seated at a very large picnic table, which isn’t very convenient if you want privacy. The hostess wanted to place us directly across from a family even though there was plenty of space elsewhere at the table. We asked to be seated at the other end so both parties can dine alone. While we ate our meal, other patrons turned down this seating option, most likely for the same reason. A young, friendly family was later placed across from us, but as soon as another table opened nearby, they asked to be moved. Clearly, this large community table is not a popular choice, and should be replaced with several smaller tables.
The Queso Fundido with Carne Asada appetizer was served in a small skillet with what appeared to be homemade tortilla chips, but was very bland appetizer and tastless. The Ceasar Salad, on the other hand was very good.
The chicken quesadilla with pineapple and peppers was delicious, but the sour cream side, like the Queso Fundido, lacked any flavor. The guacomole side was thin and not very robust.
The chicken chimichanga was perfect, the tortilla fried just right, and stuffed with beans, rice, cheese, and, of course, chicken. It was well prepared and quite pleasing. The California burrito was also very good, with plenty of french fries in the middle.
If you don’t mind eating outdoors or potentially dining with strangers, Margarita Azul has some delicious dishes. Our server was extremely helpful and polite. If they can improve on the Queso Fundido, the restaurant can easily be five stars.
