We were seated near the entrance, so it felt a bit cold whenever the door opened, and the restaurant itself is on the smaller side. That said, the food really stood out. The tonkatsu and chicken katsu were very tender and not dry at all, and the cheese was nicely stretchy. The ebi was fried well too, though it had a bit more batter than I prefer. Portion sizes were just right for one person, and considering the quality of the food, the price felt reasonable. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would definitely come back again.

The tonkatsu is the best I’ve ever had! It was super crispy on the outside and really juicy inside, and it was so delicious from the very first bite.
The rayu ramen had a lovely smoky flavor and was so tasty too.
All the servers were super nice and took great care of us.
I had such a wonderful time here. I will definitely come back 100%❣️❣️

This is a famous and popular restaurant in Richmond. The restaurant opened at noon but there were people
queuing up when I was there at 11:45. And it was a normal weekday!
The deep fried breaded pork loin meal is really tasty. The meat is moist, tender and non-greasy. The price is good and the portion is big as the set is served with unlimited shredded cabbage and rice. If you like Japanese style pork cutlets, you should not miss this restaurant.

You have to get here minimum 15-20 minutes and queue before it opens if you don’t want to wait for an hour. We arrived ~10 minutes before opening and they cut off the queue only 1 party ahead of us which lead to a 45 minute wait.

However you can get one person from your party take one for the team and arrive an hour early to join their waitlist and just have everyone arrive at the estimated time with their orders ready. Or just order takeout.

The food itself was good. The staff gives you a menu to look over while you wait outside (not allowed to wait inside) and take your order right as you are seated. Their display menu outside has very outdated prices and the real prices (picture attached) were like $5 more than the their displayed menu. I got the tonkatsu set and the tonkatsu itself was very tender and crispy (when fresh) which was a great surprise. The unlimited sides of rice, miso soup, and cabbage were great but nothing special but we definitely made our moneys worth.

The ramen looked so good and was a huge portion which makes up for it having no unlimited items compared to the katsu sets. I would definitely try that if I came again.

While the food was filling and good, I don’t know if it’s worth an hour’s wait. The estimated wait time got as high as 1h45m which at that point just go somewhere else or wait a few months for the hype to die down.

Service was excellent and the staff brought our sides very often! No complaints at all.

Edit: got the tonkatsu set as takeout and the pork stayed very juicy and tender even once we got home ~10-15 mins later. Good food.

Staff were accommodating and service was quick. Food are well-prepared and has quality. My fave is the not spicy ramen. It was really good! Katsus were fresh and crispy. The serving is good for 2 people. Be there early when they open.

Great spot for katsu! This place serves katsu and offers unlimited miso soup, rice, and salad, which is a huge plus. I ordered the cheese katsu and it was good, the cheese was rich, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the crispy coating. Definitely worth a visit!

I will mention that this restaurant is on the smaller side and is quite busy so there is always a wait list.

This place serves what our kid calls the best cutlet in the entire Greater Vancouver area — and honestly, we have to agree! The pork cutlet is so delicious that words don’t do it justice — you really have to try it for yourself to understand how good it is.

The seasoning, vegetables, and all the sides are top quality. If you’re dining as a pair, rice and vegetables are unlimited refills, which is a nice bonus. The only downside is that they don’t take reservations, and the place is always packed — expect a lineup. But it’s 100% worth the wait. Strongly recommended!

Recently, we noticed they opened a new location in Surrey too. We’re definitely planning to check it out soon — fingers crossed the flavor is just as amazing!

Got takeout from Katsu San and it was great. My combo came with pork katsu, two sauces, rice, miso soup, pickles, cabbage salad, and sesame seeds.

Katsu was crisp and flavourful even after the car ride home. Rice and salad were good as well, making for a balanced meal. Solid option for Japanese katsu.

Took my dad here for lunch on a Thursday. Shocked that by 12:01 – all dining spots were taken! We arrived about 20 mins early by chance and didn’t think it would be busy. Sat out by a bench and took a look at 11:50am – already a small line up. It’s crazy how popular this place is – they had to turn multiple people away.

Note that they do have a policy to seat only when everyone is there BUT they were super flexible and allowed a couple tables to get seated first if the other guests were “close by”. They also seemed to allow for reservations – but very strict on hitting that time deadline.

We ordered the pork katsu assorted and the Nagasaki ramen
(i forgot to take a picture when it came but did snap a pic of all the clams and mussels they had with it!) My dad doesn’t like Ramen at all or Japanese food but he gave it a thumbs up. Said it had really good broth and very generous portions of pork belly, veg and shellfish. I thought the noodles had a great bounce and the soup base was very tasty.

The assorted katsu was good too! Ebi hands down the best on the plate. I ordered a separate prawn to make it an even split and even at $6 I thought it was worth it. Super big, crisp and perfectly cooked.

Pork was also really good too, but it just tasted like a standard katsu pork loin to me so nothing of particular note – I think I might try the chicken next time just to see. The fry is just amazing at this place and the breading perfect.

The cheese katsu was a so so for both of us. People say it’s mozzarella but it didn’t taste like that to me. It had sort of this brie skin incorporated into it to hold it together. I’m particular about brie skin so I didn’t like the taste – but that’s just me. I wouldn’t fault them on it. It was super gooey and had the perfect cheese pull.

All in all, it really met expectations. It’s a kind of place where you eat and go – basically a 40ish minute window so don’t plan on doddering around. Will definitely come again!!
