Reviews
The garlic knots were good, but they were swimming in way too much olive oil for me. I know some people like that, but I don’t. Otherwise, not a bad first food impression.
It is a cozy atmosphere. The lighting is just bright enough for dinner conversations and to set a good mood. The wait staff were very friendly, very helpful and the meal came within a respectable time even though the restaurant was full. The price was also very attractive. For the portion sizes I think this is borderline cheap. All of these are high praise.
However… the food while it looked good, we were not impressed. My wife ordered the chicken marsala and after two bites sent it back to the kitchen and got herself a cheese pizza instead. I got the Pappardelle Alfredo with chicken, and I was not impressed either. Both sauces had a little bit of a chalky taste to it. Like it was made from store-bought powdered box sauce that wasn’t mixed properly. I also didn’t care for and the chicken. You can tell that it was recently thawed out before they threw it in the pan. Anyone who’s ever cooked anything in your lives will know what I’m talking about. When you defrost chicken and then cook it in a short space of time you get that little chewy almost rubberyness to the chicken, and that’s what I had tonight.
The pizza my wife got was decent. And it had better be, because if you mess up cheese pizza, you really have no business in this game. Unfortunately, the cheese pizza was the highlight of our meal experience tonight. I did not like my meal, though I finished most of it, and my wife had to return hers because it was just not worth the effort to chew.
I hope this was just an off-night, because I have scanned through several of these reviews and they were all glowing and gushing about the food quality, and I unfortunately did not experience any of that tonight. We’ll be back in the area a few months now, and we’ll try it again, and see if the experience repeats, or this was just one of those nights where the actual chef was out and there was a substitute cook in the engine room. We’ll see.
Service was incredibly kind and patient. Not one mistake with our order despite the modifications and the mind changes.
The atmosphere is comfortable, clean and very cute, you really felt like you were in a business where the owner cares.
Mozzarella sticks were super delicious. Not your average cheap frozen mozzarella sticks but rich and cheesy sticks with very good breading. The free garlic knots are insane. I made the mistake of filling up on them but I couldn’t help myself because they were so delicious. Their pizza was delicious, house made dough and they were not stingy with the cheese. I had the cannelloni entree. Meat filled pasta tubes with tomato sauce and béchamel. Perfect portion size. I loved it. A dish you do not often see on Italian menus.
I will definitely go back to Vito’s next time I am in Harrisonburg. A family owned place with great value and great heart.
Now, let’s talk about the food! We started our meal with the complimentary garlic bread, which was warm, buttery, and absolutely delicious. It was the perfect way to kick off our dining experience. For our main courses, we ordered the fried calamari, which was crispy and seasoned to perfection. We also enjoyed the Scampi Shrimp Spaghetti and the Seafood Spaghetti, featuring shrimp and salmon in a rich red sauce. Both dishes were bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. The freshness of the ingredients truly shone through, making for a satisfying dining experience.
Another highlight of Vito’s is the Italian market located next door. After dining, we learned that patrons can enjoy a 10% discount at the market, which is a wonderful perk. It’s great to know you can take a piece of that authentic Italian experience home with you!
Additionally, Vito’s offers a happy hour from 3 PM to 6 PM, featuring drink specials at a decent price. This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the vibrant vibes of the restaurant without breaking the bank.
Overall, Vito’s Italian Restaurant is a gem worth visiting. With great food, a lovely atmosphere, and the added bonus of discounts at the market, it’s a place I’ll definitely return to for another delightful meal!
We enjoyed a great Rigatoni and a spectacular Gnocchi. We will make a point to visit Harrisonburg again our next time we are anywhere near here.
