A Nashville Favorite – Midtown Café
Midtown Café was an absolute highlight of our trip to Nashville. This traditional restaurant offers a fantastic variety of dishes, including a generous selection of vegetarian options. Every meal we had was fresh, flavorful, and well presented.

We enjoyed it so much, we went back three times during our short stay—which says a lot!

The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with attentive service that makes you feel right at home. Whether you’re stopping in for brunch, lunch, or dinner, Midtown Café delivers consistently excellent food and a relaxed traditional dining experience.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality traditional cuisine. It’s a true gem of Nashville.

Stopped here for lunch based on a recommendation from a local. I was not disappointed. The staff was really freindly and genuinely looked happy to be working here. The whole place was very welcoming.

I ordered the hot chicken sandwich and it was amazing. the chicken was perfectly spicy, it was served on really thick toast that was cooked perfectly. The ranch they served with it was really good. along with a generous serving of fries.

Next time, i want to try the reuben!

Glad our hotel bartender recommended we stop in for brunch as this is definitely a cool old local hangout. Love that they haven’t the tucked aside little bar for a variety of seating, and enjoyed the intimate and vibrant brunch crowd on game day. Meals were all tasty and appreciated that they split our omelette dish for us. The grits were out of site by the way. Get n if u can while in town and go w friends…have a bloody, and get ur day going right! PS – the little house biscuits were a welcome addition.

We Had the best dinner ever! Started the night with shrimp and grits, followed by soup of the day, prime pork chop, finishing with homemade banana cheesecake!
We didn’t get the lady’s name but her service was fantastic!

We visited Midtown Cafe for the first time as locals. Saturday at noon meant there were quite a few people there. We were able to get seats for four at the bar. The bartender provided us with the perfect amount of attention, was friendly and knew the menu well. We ordered breakfast and lunch so that we could all try some of both. I thought that the wait time for the food might be longer since they were full, but the food was ready in about 15-20 minutes. The shrimp and grits were perfect. The French toast was also a must try. There were so many great choices on the menu that it was difficult to choose. We shared a piece of coconut cake and I must say that it rivals my own recipe. Don’t skip out on the cake- you’ll thank me later. We can’t wait to return to try some of their other menu items.

As advertised, completely outstanding. Make sure you get a reservation no matter when you go, they are packed and for good reason!! So good, great portion sizes, the right level of attentiveness from the servers – just outstanding all the way around. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Nashville.

12/11/2025 stopped here for breakfast. Parking is crazy, they charge $20! I parked in the back of the restaurant for FREE! Lucked out and didn’t get towed or a ticket.

For breakfast I ordered the eggs benedict with grits and a coffee. $19 for the food and $4 for the coffee. The food wasn’t anything special and wasn’t hot when it came out which means it’s sitting too long.

The grits were tasty but again wasn’t very hot and an ice cream scoop of it. It was an odd presentation. Just put it in a separate bowl and serve it HOT!

The asparagus was cold and boring, just leave that off the plate. If you’re going to put it on the plate, grill it, season it, make it have flavor!

This place wasn’t a 4.7, definitely can do a lot better! I was disappointed in it for a $27 bill!

The lady in the front was really nice. We walked in and were able to get seated right away. The food was really good, I had the Nashville hot chicken biscuits. The coffee was really smooth I had about 3 cups worth. They let you split the checks as many ways as you want so that’s nice for larger groups.

I come to Vanderbilt for work about every 3-6 months and always have a breakfast here. Quality, service and atmosphere never lets me down. They’ve been an icon in Midtown for many decades. Make a reservation. Weekends get booked up.
