Have always wanted to stop here so today we did on our way to Arkansas. Service was quick. Staff was friendly & courteous. Food was excellent & the biscuits are exactly as stated, the best! Had the 2 egg with meat breakfast. Coffee was fresh & on point! Highly recommend!

Cute little spot. My first time here was a quick stop for a late lunch. I had the liver and onions, good comfort food. Clean, cute and good service. I’d be back for a here and there spot.

My go-to restaurant for good food, reasonable prices, and great friendly service. We ordered from the senior menu breakfast with biscuit (not in the picture) and the gourmet burger with chips. Ordered extra onions. Yummmm

Being from NY, we’re finders are a staple of life. I have yet to find a “Real Diner” here in Louisiana (Waffle House is NOT a diner, BTW).
Seen this place driving to an archery shoot and for the outside, it screams “Diner”. Came back a month later and stopped in at 10pm. Walked in and it was like walking into a diner in NY.
The reason we loved diners in NY is because of the hours ( Mel’s is open 24 hours), the variety of food and the fast service.
Mel’s hits all three! We had our food within minutes of ordering!
My only regret is it is 90 minutes away. But whenever I’m in the area, I will stop here, that is for sure!

I’m always one to give the benefit of the doubt, but this is one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant. My husband and I were there on 12/30/25 at about 2pm after receiving a good recommendation to go there from a local business. We are not from the area so we wanted some good Cajun food. Not much is Cajun on the menu except a bowl of gumbo. It’s not the restaurant’s fault for the ‘wrong’ food recommendation so this isn’t about that. The menu is an All-American menu – to be expected from “Mel’s Diner” a la the Alice sit-com from decades ago. The outside and inside decor is adorable so I had such high hopes. It wasn’t crowded or busy with only one other family in the restaurant on the other side of the diner. My husband and I both ordered the fried catfish, mashed pots/gravy, and a salad. About 10 minutes after ordering, I went to the restroom and my husband was chewing on a bite as I walked out of the restroom since the food had been delivered while I was gone. He said, “We shouldn’t have got the catfish.” Sure enough, it was muddy. All of it tasted like dirt. The mashed potatoes were instant potatoes too (and mine were cold) so I suspect the brown gravy over the potatoes was instant as well. The waitress never came back to check on us (I would have asked for some tartar sauce for my fish) but we never saw her again. At first, we thought we’d order a couple of bowls of gumbo to-go for dinner later, but hubs said, “I don’t want any gumbo from here.” Then, WHILE WE WERE EATING, the guy doing janitorial work pulled the yellow mop bucket right past our table and began to mop the floor from one end to the other right in front of our table, slopping nasty mop strings left and right, moving chairs and tables all around us. All I could smell was the pine cleaner in the bucket. It was awful. We put everything down and we left right then. I got up and walked over to the register and after I found the waitress I told her we wanted to pay out. She didn’t say a single word to me but walked behind the register She took my credit card, handed me a reciept with a pen, and said, “Have a nice day” and walked away. I signed the receipt without anyone at the register and walked out. Worst $48 of a meal I’ve ever spent. Almost $50 for a fresh lettuce/tomato salad (best part of the meal in a tiny dish), muddy fried catfish, and instant potatoes/gravy. Neither of us ate 10 bites. I left her a $2 tip and I shouldn’t have even done that. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I’ve NEVER had someone mop the floor right next to my table as I’m eating. Horrible experience from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere.

OMG the biscuits!!! Service was fast, food was delicious and priced so reasonable… where else can you get a bacon, egg, cheese buiscuit for like $3 and it’s not some franchise fast food. Served hot and quick in an old school diner setting! Even bought biscuits and gravy to go and eat the next day!! AMAZING!!! 1000% recommend

Service was great, food was just okay. Biscuits were heavy and lacked flavor. The sausage was tasty and the egg was fine, grits were luke warm. For the hype regarding the biscuits, I expected more. It is a neat place, with all the atmosphere you expect from a diner.
