We were seated promptly at our reservation time at a cozy table looking out the window onto the street surrounded by beautiful artwork by local artists.
If you’re really lucky your server will be Summer, who knows the menu inside and out was exceptionally friendly and served us with a smile. There are many wonderful dishes to choose from but make sure you don’t miss the truffle fries. Can’t wait to go back and try some more of their fresh menu items.
Tucked in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor, Café Zola offers a cozy yet vibrant dining experience that hits all the right notes.
I ordered the salmon burger, and it was really good. Tender and flaky on the inside, and topped with pickled ginger, fresh veggies, and a flavorful sauce that tied it all together. The sweet potato fries were crispy and addicting.
The espresso martini was the cherry on top smooth, bold, and beautifully presented. If you’re a coffee lover, this one’s a must.
The ambiance is stylish yet relaxed perfect for brunch with friends or a casual date night. Service was attentive and friendly throughout.
Overall: Café Zola is a gem in Ann Arbor. Amazing food, great drinks, and a vibe that makes you want to linger just a little longer.
My S.O. had the southwest omelette. I didn’t taste it, but I did have the potatoes which were cooked perfectly and seasoned well.
Our server Billy was friendly and knowledgeable about their menu.
We will be going back.
The absolute standout dish was the Sambar Grilled Chicken Skewers—the sauce was the real star, adding a bold kick that made the dish unforgettable. The flavors still linger, making it a must-try! Though listed as a starter, the portion was generous enough to be a main course. The sauce and chicken complemented each other perfectly, making it a standout dish.
We also tried:
• Shrimp Tacos – Fresh and flavorful
• Brussels Sprouts – Nicely done
• Bread Board – A good starter to share
• Tofu with Ginger Tahini Sauce – Light yet packed with flavor
• Cavalo Nero (Kale pesto & spring pea shoots) – A unique and tasty combination
• Tajarin ai Limone with Chicken (customized with added chicken) – So good! The chicken was cooked to perfection.
• Faroe Island Salmon Fillet – Well-prepared and delicious
The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring we had a great experience. They also offer outdoor seating for summer, which is something I’d love to try next time. They offer vegetarian and gluten-free options, and the staff is accommodating if you need modifications. It’s best to check with them for specific dietary needs
For parking, we got lucky since it wasn’t too busy, but during peak hours, finding a spot can be tricky as it’s located downtown. However, a private paid parking lot is just a few steps away, making it convenient.
The restaurant falls on the expensive side, and the portions are small, but the flavors make up for it. Next time, I’m definitely trying their crepes and truffle fries! Overall, Great Food, Cozy Ambiance, and Friendly Service. A great spot for a nice meal with friends—just don’t expect a huge menu!
I really wanted to like this place, but after several visits and seeing how things operate behind the scenes, I have to be honest. The food is mediocre at best — nothing memorable, especially for the price. Some of the servers truly try their best and are kind, attentive, and hardworking. They are the only part of this restaurant that feels welcoming.
Unfortunately, the management is where everything falls apart. The person acting as both manager and HR does not show professionalism or respect toward the staff. Even worse, the owner openly belittles and yells at employees — sometimes right in front of customers. It’s uncomfortable to watch and creates a very tense atmosphere. Anyone paying attention can feel it in the room.
The restaurant itself also does not feel clean. The floors and general environment come across as worn, grimy, and neglected. For a place that wants to present itself as a quality dining experience, the upkeep just isn’t there.
It’s disappointing, because this place could be great with better leadership, respect for the staff, and higher standards in the kitchen and cleanliness. But right now, it’s not somewhere I would recommend — and it’s definitely not somewhere I’d return to.
