Made the mistake of not taking a picture of our steak; just dove right in with our forks and knives. The cowboy butter added a wonderful flavor to the steak. Mashed potatoes and brown gravy, delicious. I did remember to take pictures of our desserts! GET THE BREAD PUDDING!! Their signature rum sauce was to die for. We got to meet the owner and as a southern gal, she knows her rum sauces! The apple crisp was very yummy too! Love this restaurant and our server was wonderful!

This was one of the better places near Ouray that had food. Actual flavor We ate on the deck, the festival played music near by, the mountains played their part, and the drinks were yummy. Our waitress was quick with the food and very nice.

The location has film-historic value, makes you think that you’re sitting at the table with John Wayne himself. If you grew up in and the era of Westerns like Bonanza, Gunsmoke and True Grit, then this is the place for you. And even if you’re not from that era, if you appreciate a really good meal featuring local cuisine in a most delightful atmosphere, this is the place for you.

Hands down the best gluten-free burger I’ve had. Everything was amazing, and we actually came back a second time during our trip because the food was so good. The owner was awesome and super knowledgeable about gluten-free.

Service was super friendly and helpful guiding us through the menu. We had a big group, four adults and three toddlers and they served us with a smile. Sandwiches were tasty and chicken fried steak was thick and delicious.

Service prompt and accommodating but food taste average and not made as described for chicken pot pie special. Restaurant decoration of western tribute to John Wayne extensive.

You visit True Grit for the sense of Americana and a desire to experience the American west. You leave True Grit with an appreciation for the food and the people. We had a 25-30 minute wait, as a bus pulled in right before our arrival. But the wait was absolutely worth it. It’s situated across from the park, and we were urged to take kids there to bide time. Our wait staff was friendly and went the extra mile. The kids Mac n cheese is not the stereotypical Kraft you get at so many other restaurants. It’s the real deal, like your mama makes Mac with cheese layered on top. I would absolutely recommend the fries. They appeared fresh cut, came out sizzling hot, and packed with flavor. I got the meatloaf with the green chili over top and a side of the red chili as well. The green was my favorite, but both were very tasty. My wife ordered an elk burger. It was huge and had a slightly smoky flavor. Best restaurant we visited in the area. We did have quite a wait for the food once seated, but wait staff apologized for this multiple times, and it was apparent the bus had backed up the kitchen. Food was worth the wait. The setting and decor is pretty cool. Mountain views from their outside deck. Ridgway has a museum that gives free train rides on the weekends across the way. Saddle up and make a stop at True Grit–you won’t regret it.

I loved everything about this restaurant! The decor inside really gives off that authentic Colorado feel, and everything on the menu sounded so good. I had such a hard time deciding on what to order but I ended up getting the chicken fried chicken dinner with white Gravy sauce.

It was a huge portion! And the batter and seasoning tasted just like KFC, super delicious. I was dying full but I finished the entire thing lol. Also, I ordered a side of loaded mashers for the first time and now I’m obsessed!

My boyfriend basically had the same thing but the beef version. In the end I personally couldn’t tell a difference, both tasted yummy. He had a side of the green chili with his and it is super spicy, so not for the faint hearted!

Tons of drink options on the menu as well. I had two beers which were ice cold and perfect after driving for hours. I really wanted dessert but I couldn’t breathe in the end lol. Our server was really kind and I had a great time here!
