We started with the escargot appetizer and it was so buttery and the snails just melt in your mouth. Paired with that roasted garlic bread; chefs kiss!
For dinner I had the Bayrischer Schweinebraten (Bavarian pork roast). It was absolutely delicious! The pork was so tender that you didn’t need a knife to cut it. It was juicy and the brown sauce just enhanced the flavor of the roast pork and stuff that comes with the dinner. Also served with a potato, veg and a soup or salad. I opted for the house salad, spatzle, and creamed spinach.
My wife had the Schweizer Shnitzel (Swiss Shnitzel) with mushrooms and Swiss cheese melted on top. She got the potato pancakes, saur kraut, and the beef and noodle soup.
Then we finished out dinner with a traditional apple strudel. It was everything you look for in a strudel with homemade whipped cream.
Overall everything was absolutely delicious and the price point/portion sizes it all the more better. The owner Mike stopped by our table and just has a great personality. You can tell he cares about the customers experience. Service, food, atmosphere: 10/10
Can’t wait to go back and try the sausage platter next! Cheers!
We visited Chef Claus for dinner
– atmosphere is really cool with all their German decor
– I gave 4 stars (and not 5) because the bill was a little expensive for the food we got. For dinner for 2, with no drinks (only water), and a standard dinner, with tip, we were at $80
– the menu has LOTS of options
– menu has a section of standard “plain American” options if someone in your group is not a German food fan
– dinners come with a soup or salad, and 2 veggies. I got the French onion soup for an upcharge and for the veggie I got sauerkraut and garlic mashed potatoes
– dinners also get a free bread and light veggie tray
– I really enjoyed the decor of the restaurant- there’s TONs of German decorations such as , murals, model train, mugs on the wall, taxidermy animals, etc
– restaurant is kid friendly
– any clothing selection would be OK (it’s not formal dining)
The food here is very good. We especially enjoy the many schnitzels and the pork shank. The sides are also great — we miss the family style options for large parties — and the beer is always just right. The service varies from person to person but its always efficient and done well.
If you happen to be there when there’s entertainment you’re in for a treat! I know all the routines now. Take a turn on the almglocken! (Fancy word for tuned cowbells.)
Note: some people are put off by the military themes of a Germanic nature. That’s your right. I look at it interestingly as an amateur historian and then concentrate on the great food. Don’t go there with presumptions and just have a good time.
