Mussels & other casual bites & brews served in a historic, comfy neighborhood nook with water views.

Four people visited around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and waited about 15 minutes. We ordered 2 lb of steamed mussels with white onion—they were fresh and plentiful but a bit plain in flavor; adding Tabasco sauce helped. The fried seafood combination was good, though not exceptional.
The price was reasonable: around $83 for the two dishes, garlic bread(5, they refilled it for free), and one Coke. The portions would feed 3–4 women with smaller appetites. The server was very attentive and kind.

My best friend and I came here for lunch. It was packed and we had to wait for the table. To me this just meant the food was going to be great. The wait for the table was not as bad as we had anticipated. To drink, I had a Stella beer. You cannot go wrong with a cold beer. To eat, I tried the seafood chowder. It was tasty and it had a little bit of everything. As an entree, I had the hot honey cod bites, which was delicious. The hot honey elevated the taste of the cod. My best friend had the fish chips and she enjoyed it. When we were done eating, it took us a bit to get the server’s attention to ask for the check but we understood why as it was full. The staff was nonstop. This was a nice casual tavern to have lunch in.

Loved the view overlooking the ocean, HATED the service. The one server completely ignored my friend and I, it took forever for us to get our orders taken. Didn’t even enjoy my pot of mussels the way I would’ve liked. ALSO, they asked for my ID, don’t know if that is common place or a good ol’ case of racial profiling? Either way, I strongly suggest POC’s NOT to dine here. They would clearly prefer it that way.

Toby’s has a strong local vibe, and it seems to be the kind of place where regulars meet up for drinks and casual food. The layout reflects that: a bar on one side, booths on the other, and a pool table squeezed into the middle. The space feels very cramped, and the placement of the pool table makes the room even tighter.
Our group of five was seated in a booth clearly meant for four. No one offered an extra chair, so I had to find one myself. The noise level was extremely high, to the point where we could barely hear each other.
The menu offered a decent variety, and the clam chowder was genuinely tasty. However, the timing of the food was inconsistent—our dishes arrived randomly over a span of about 20+ minutes. I ordered onion rings, and they were so overcooked that several were charred. Our server never returned to check on us after the food arrived.
Another odd detail: they don’t bring the check to the table. You have to pay on your way out, which added to the overall disorganized feel.
Toby’s might be great for locals grabbing drinks and hanging out, but based on our experience, it wasn’t a comfortable or well‑run dining environment especially for visitors.

A great tavern featuring local pub-style dishes. The atmosphere truly felt authentic and local, and the prices were reasonable given the area. However, the service was a bit inconsistent. We received a warm welcome and prompt attention at first, but then it seemed to lose steam.
Our waiter was friendly but prioritize some tables much more than others, which left us and seemingly the other ignored tables feeling overlooked.
Despite the ups and downs, it’s still a great place worth checking out; it just feels like they could benefit from a few more staff members to enhance the overall experience of guests.

The staff at Toby’s is really great! They are super friendly and know what they are doing!
We loved our service.
The smoked salmon chowder was delicious!!! I enjoyed the Toby’s Red Ale as well.
The Salmon and Chips had so much batter, it wasn’t as good as it could have been.
This is a cozy little place with beautiful views. If we lived nearby, we would come here often.

Our service was good. Our waiter brought us out a piece of hot brownie dessert just because before we ate. There were two people waiting on us and someone else brought out our food. Our portions were a good size. My hamburger was burnt on the outside. My boyfriend got fish and chips. The coleslaw was good. It’s good for just bar food if that’s what you’re looking for. I’d say go once try it yourself. I will say it was a little uncomfortable being 2 people sitting at a booth for 6 or more.

We had to bring our friends from out of town to Toby’s! The mussels were delicious as always. Our friends also tried the fried shrimp and loved it. Being right on the water is a unique experience. Can’t wait to come back.

My sis and I just wanted a quick bite for lunch. We ordered fried clams and shrimp & draft beers at the bar. I heard the young man sitting next to us order mussels in a green coconut curry broth. Yum! Asked our server if I could change my order. She checked, but too late. Sis & I got our meals promptly and dove in; all very good. Then our server slipped me a side of the mussels gratis! Soooo delicious! The guy next to us said he comes all the way from Everett most Saturdays for these curry mussels. I can see why! It happened to be my birthday so I told the server the mussels were a wonderful birthday treat. She then goes back to the kitchen & comes out with a huge, fresh-baked, still-warm brownie as we headed out the door. Never been so spoiled by a server! Wish I got her name. Great food & customer service!
