I recently visited Varalakshmi Vegetarian Takeout & Catering, a 24-hour vegetarian spot in Brampton that offers a huge South Indian menu at extremely reasonable prices.
We tried the Punugulu, Mysore Bonda, Idli, Puri with Curry, and Masala Vada. The standout for me was definitely the Idli — super soft, melting, served piping hot, and paired with an amazing tomato chutney that really elevated the dish. The dishes come with peanut chutney, ginger chutney, tomato chutney and Sambar.
The Masala Vada and Mysore Bonda were a bit average, and honestly there are other places that serve these items better. The Puri with curry was alright as well — decent but not something I’d call a must-try.
Overall, it’s a good place if you’re looking to satisfy South Indian breakfast cravings or want a vegetarian meal at any hour, especially given the wide variety of options and very reasonable pricing. Definitely worth visiting if you’re around Brampton.

I want to be honest with you, it was indeed disappointing that I travelled that long with high hopes but the dosa I got was definitely not the standard i was expecting and I would just say that it’s not even what any one will be okay with.
I ordered one masala and one plain dosa and both were like this color. I don’t know much about cooking but this is not how that are supposed to look like. It will be easier to just let it cook for 30 more seconds and it will be good like other pictures i see on reviews.
I don’t know why i was served like this in rush. If kitchen staff is reading this… please don’t take this personal, but you guys owe me two good and decent dosa.
i’ll give credit where it’s due, the staff is welcoming and friendly and also they helped me to customize my chutney needs. The sambar also tastes great, just needs to go easy on oil. way too much oil on surface.
I wish nothing but success for this place, please don’t compensate on what you serve no matter how busy it gets. You never cut corners on quality and what I was served today does not look good.
Thank you and wish this restaurant a successful journey ahead, i might visit back if they improve the dosa.

We are extremely disappointed with the recent catering order we received. Both Mirchi Bajji and Punugulu were delivered with an excessive amount of oil. Even after switching to different trays, the paper towels were completely soaked. The Mirchi Bajji were dark brown in color and visibly oily — you didn’t even have to touch them to notice it.
In addition, the taste of both items was not satisfactory. The chutney provided was also nowhere close to sufficient — it wasn’t even enough for 5 plates, whereas we ordered 20 plates. We would have been more than willing to pay for extra chutney if you had suggested it. Unfortunately, there was no guidance or recommendation from your end.
Overall, this experience was very disappointing, and we expect better quality and communication for an order of this size.

I tried their Bonda last week, loved it! So went back today to try their Bhindi Fry, Idly- Vada combo and Pulihora. Apart from the issue with small serving sizes, the Bhindi fry was totally burnt coal! The Idli was dry and crisped out on the circumference. The pulihora was ok, but too little serving. Overall , a very disappointing experience today compared to my earlier experience last week! I will have to think twice before going back!

We first tasted Varalakshmi’s food at a friend’s Puja, and both my spouse and I instantly loved how authentic and homely everything felt. A few months later, we decided to cater from Varalakshmi Vegetarian Takeout & Catering for a birthday party, and the entire experience was exceptional.
Before finalizing the menu, they even offered us a free tasting at the restaurant, which gave us full confidence that we were choosing the right place. The pricing was also very reasonable, especially considering the quality and quantity provided.
Santhosh, the owner, was extremely helpful. He understood our party needs, explained the menu options clearly, added items we requested that weren’t on the menu, and suggested a few more dishes that turned out to be crowd favourites. The veg Manchurian was honestly the best I’ve ever had.
The portions were generous, and every guest appreciated the food without us asking. Many happily took leftovers home — always a great sign! Since then, we’ve catered again for another party in December… and then twice more for two additional events. The quality has been consistently excellent every time.
Highly recommend Varalakshmi for anyone looking for flavourful, authentic vegetarian catering. We will definitely continue ordering from them for all our future events.

Its a hidden gem which is 24 hours open. I always order late night and surprisingly everything is freshly made. Only dosa is a decent one but other items are really delicious. And most importantly, prices are really cheap.

Just had some incredible food from Varalakshmi Catering & Takeout! The vadas were perfectly crispy on the outside and wonderfully soft on the inside. They came with an excellent selection of delicious chutneys. However, the sambar could use some improvement, as it felt extremely loose and unflavorful. Despite that, the service was top-notch, with Dasharath being particularly pleasant and helpful. Definitely coming back!

I drove 100 km just to experience this place, and it was absolutely worth it. The food truly feels like home. The owner is very humble and caring, which adds to the homely atmosphere.
Must-try items: Mysore Bonda, Punugulu, Idly (authentic Andhra style), ginger chutney, and the sambar — all were excellent. But the Poornalu completely stole the show.

I had the Bonda, Pulihora, Sambar Rice & Curd rice. Pulihora is delicious and it reminded me the taste of temple Pulihora from my place. Bonda is also soft and perfectly cooked. Everything was served warm and fresh.
Customer service is amazing.
Prices are also very reasonable for the quantity they give.
Definitely a must try if you are a South Indian or anyone who wants to try South Indian food.

We placed catering order for our baby shower function from Varalakshmi Catering. The food was absolutely amazing, the flavours and taste were so authentic to south indian food. Our friends & family thoroughly enjoyed the lunch spread to their hearts content! Top hits were Mango Pulihara, Cauliflower pickle, Gutti Vankaya!
I would 100% recommend them if you are out there looking for authentic south indian food options. Their pricing is reasonable for the quality, quantity & taste of the food.
