Chunga’s

Social Profile:

The tacos al pastor are the main event at Chunga’s, and for good reason. Pork, pineapple and some greenery make for a very satisfying, non-greasy meal. All kinds of fun ingredients dot the menu, including a few vegetarian options like cactus, mushroom and flor de calabaza (google that last one since translation is hard to find). If you want something a little more authentic, try the alambre, a dish that’s a bunch of normal Mexican ingredients mixed together in a tasty mess. Cool the spiciness off with a papaya shake. Chunga’s has two locations on 18895 South Redwood Rd. Salt Lake City, Utah 84104 and on 180 S 900 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84104.

Mexican fare with a Cancun flair including burritos, pineapple salsa & fruity milkshakes.

A solid 4.5/5 Mexican restaurant

steak & al pastor tacos: 5/5
al pastor burrito: 3.5/5 (it’s a bit of a weird mix, but my own fault)
Homemade salsa: 10/5!!! SO good!!!

Friendly service. The restaurant has its own parking lot.

We originally planned to eat at Red Iguana, but the 45-minute wait just didn’t fit into our schedule since we had a waxing appointment coming up fast ⏰ So we quickly searched for another option and found Chungas right around the corner. Talk about a lucky find!
From the moment we walked in, the experience felt unforgettable. It was our first visit, and let’s just say it felt like a full-on celebration Free drinks, festive vibes, and such a welcoming atmosphere. The energy alone made it worth stopping by.
The food? Absolutely delicious and definitely a step above your typical fast-food stop ️ Everything came out quickly, which we really appreciated, and the staff were friendly and fun. The enchiladas we saw coming out to other tables looked amazing — people seemed pretty happy digging in
Overall, it was fast, entertaining, and full of personality. We left laughing and already curious what the next visit might bring!

I’ve seen this place and always wanted to try it, and then happened to be in the area around lunchtime. A small venue, but the menu is extensive and varied. I got the al pastor tacos and was not disappointed. Everything was good, but I especially enjoyed the salsa. It was unlike anything I have ever tasted. The flavor was intriguing – it had a sweet, smoky, almost fruity taste. The service was friendly and fast, and the place was hopping, even though it wasn’t peak lunch hour. I will likely return to try some of the other offerings and to have some more of that interesting salsa.

Very tasty, and very fast service! The quesadilla was definitely one of the winners. Tacos were superb. Juices seemed a bit overpriced at $6.

The Al Pastor Gordita I had today at Chunga’s was the best I’ve ever had! The shell was hot and crisp. And the meat was so flavorful. My kids tried the enchiladas and my husband had a smothered steak burrito. The chips and salsa were great. Everything was fresh and delicious. We were completely satisfied. The dining are was clean and the service was friendly and fast. Thank you!

The food is fantastic Tastes authentic, great flavors, food was fresh and made to order. I think the tortillas were also handmade. Would definitely go back. The red chipotle sauce was our favorite. A great hole in the wall. Only cons: no a/c inside, small parking lot

I really enjoyed eating at this place. It was a quick in, a quick order, and the food came out quick. My whole visit took less than 30 minutes. The staff was quite helpful and polite. Lots of fun music and smiles to go around. It was almost like a fiesta, but that happens every day. Everything seemed quite clean and the food tasted amazing. I would absolutely stop here and eat again.

Very small place, about 10 tables. Small isn’t bad. The food was pretty good but the service could have been better. My husband & I ate the Tacos combo, my father-in-law ate Enchiladas. Then we all had a Churro for dessert. Plus I had a Strawberry water/slush to drink.
