Very good food and generous servings! Me came with soup or salad. The salsa is very good, served fresh and hot! Server was good and fast. Relaxing environment and ambience. Somewhat pricey compared to other Mexican restaurant, it’s worth it. Recommended!

I called in a pick-up order on Friday. The guy told me about 15 min. I got there 15 min later and my food was ready. The process was quick. The staff was friendly. I was greeted upon entering.

I ordered the pork taco dinner with no add-ons like cheese or sour cream. The add-on prices were pretty steep. The taco dinner includes rice, beans, and a side salad or soup. I got salad. The food was packaged well. They included ranch, chips & salsa, and also a side of green sauce. My food was good. It was better than most but not the best. I usually dine in when I go here. This was my 1st time doing takeout. I prefer dining in. They have amazing margaritas which I did not get on this trip.

I’ll def be back, but I’m gonna make sure it’s dine in.

UPDATE: 4/11/24:

Back again for a quick dinner. Shrimp fajitas for me, Flautas for the family. Fajitas were good, lots of shrimp and peppers. Leftovers will be a good lunch with some salad. Was told the ground beef Flautas were “ok,” but wife wasn’t loving them for “not having any flavour” and being greasy. Chicken flautas were good, but not completely eaten. No fault of the taste, more the amount of chips and salsa consumed before dinners arrival. And on that note, great salsa. Medium spice and flavourful.

Long ago, in a Maria’s before remodeling.

Went back today for a party. The food was much better, as well was the service. It actually makes a decent place for an afternoon event.

Food was ok, when it was the food I ordered. Strange when you mention being a vegetarian and order enchiladas, the last thing you’d expect was ground beef. Not paying attention, since it was covered in sauce, I had the first bite of beef that I’ve had in 30ish years. I can say I didn’t enjoy the flavour. On so many levels.

But wait there’s more. So, you would think that when you mention AGAIN about being vegetarian being served beef enchiladas, the server might say they were sorry, there must have been some sort of mix up. Nope, just an, “oh, I’ll have them remake it.” And very unapologetic at that. After that service just got crappier. And I wasn’t being a jerk about it, I just stayed calm to see what would happen. The answer… Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Management never came to apologize, service got worse, and the mostly enjoyable place we’d gone to several times was taken off of the list of places we’d return too.

Terribly disappointing.

We loved the delicious food, the excellent service, the dessert so good. Too crowded for our liking, but we could see why. Will try a week night in the future. I’m definitely going back. We ordered steak fajitas, tampiqueña and steak tacos, all delicious and more than enough food. Love the chips and salsa! The fried ice cream was a sweet ending to our dining experience! Highly recommend Maria’s

Portions are more than ample. Food is excellent. They go out of their way to accommodate you. Just found the place a little noisy because of all the birthday celebrations. It seems like every table is celebrating a birthday both times that I’ve been there. Love the art on the wall.

I was so taken by the exterior of this restaurant I just had to try it. It took 6 months, but I finally made it. We started with Quesadillas de Pollo, it was stuffed with chicken and yummy veggies. Our server was awesome. I gave her a heads-up that I could have nothing spicy, and she helped me navigate the menu. My first choice, the Seafood Stew, was spicy and could not be altered. My second choice: Ay! Chihuahua (charbroiled skirt steak with sautéed vegetables in white wine and Chihuahua cheese). The steak was tender and well cooked, the cheese was overwhelming and tgat is something from me, I usually love cheese, but this was a lot of cheese. My dining partner had Huachinango Ala Mojo de Ajo (Charbroiled whole red snapper with Garlic and white wine sauce). It was impressive (if you can handle having a whole fish placed in front of you) and delicious: tender and delicate. We finished with Chocolate Flan, a nice twist of the traditional flan. The food was pricey for what we got, I have been to other Mexican restaurants and got similar dishes at considerably lower prices. We each ordered a diet Coke, we were brought a can with ice. Maria’s has a full bar. They can have fountain service; but then they couldn’t charge $3.50 per serving.

If there’s one place in Elmwood Park that consistently hits every note, flavor, atmosphere, and soul..it’s Maria’s. It’s more than a restaurant for me, it’s a midweek ritual, a place where I write, relax, and enjoy food that feels like home.
So talk about the food. Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular like me (who’s tried nearly everything on the menu), the flavors are always on point. My go-to combo? The a la carte tamale, steak taco, and chimichanga. It’s a holy trinity of textures and taste: The tamale comes wrapped in its husk like a gift, with that perfectly moist masa and hearty filling that warms you from the inside out. The steak taco is simple but flavorful, tender beef, crisp lettuce, shredded cheese, and a juicy slice of tomato on a warm tortilla. And the chimichanga? Melted cheese, savory meat, crispy shell, topped with a dollop of cool sour cream. Every bite is rich and satisfying. Pair it with a glass of red wine (or whatever your drink of choice is), and it’s a meal that makes you want to linger a little longer.
The vibe is what seals the deal. I always grab that corner seat at the bar on Wednesdays, it’s my spot to unwind, write, and watch the rhythm of the restaurant. There’s something about the hum of conversation, the soft clink of glasses, and the warmth of the staff that makes it feel like you’re part of something special.
Maria’s isn’t just a place to eat, it’s a place to be. Whether you’re here for the enchiladas, the pozole, or just a quiet moment with a cold drink and a hot plate, you’ll leave full..in more ways than one. <3
Five stars, every time.

Look, it’s across between a full stocked bar and a sit down restaurant like the pepe’s chain-a luxury gem hidden by it’s hole-in-the-wall nature.

Don’t elevate it into some bespoke Fogo de Chao restaurant, but this is the closest thing you will have to *proper* Mexican cuisine that is both friendly to people with dietary restrictions or touchy stomachs.

Would give it a 6/5 for the awesome food if I could, staff are a solid 4, and atmosphere for a bar is a 5.

TLDR this is an adult family restaurant where the food’s focus is the taste and ingredient quality-worth a stop.

If you have specific dietary restrictions, always ask your server, but otherwise excellent place. 🙂

Large portions for the price, come hungry or SHARE.

Maria’s is becoming a regular go to for family nights. We love the atmosphere there and all the artwork. The margaritas and chips and Salsa are a must! They have plenty of dinner choices. We definitely enoy ending our week here on Fridays to wind down for the weekend.
