Went with my wife to try the Prix Fix Lunch of 3 courses. Please note it was 11:30am on a Thursday.
When we first entered, host was nowhere to be seen but the bartender made eye contact with us. Unfortunately, he didn’t say anything and turned away as we continued to look for the host. She then came from the private dining room from the left end of dining area. We got seated immediately as there were only 4 total tables inclusive of us dining (3 along the booths and 1 at the bar).
Service was not bad from our server, nothing special but hit all the points. Food was good but also nothing exceptional.
Appetizers:
1) Sticky chicken wings were slightly tangy and sweet, not bad.
2) lobster bisque had a little heat, I relatively enjoyed it.
Main:
1) Petite Beef Wellington was tender and met expectations compared to other wellingtons we’ve had before.
2) RK burger was satisfactory but I felt like it lacked a bit of acidity/tang and freshness (no tomatoes or lettuce of sorts). I believe Gordon Ramsay is also known for cooking a burger patty below well done, but this style of burger was made well done.
Desserts:
1) Toffee pudding was the preferred of the two. Not overly sweet and ice cream scoop gave a nice temperature contrast while adding a creamy texture.
2) Cheesecake was a little too sweet and felt more like a regular cheesecake with some diced caramelized apples.
Here are the things observed…
1) There were only 4 total tables dining. However, server assistant still brought the wrong orders to our table.
2) While the server was cleaning our appetizer plates, the red peppers from the sticky chicken wings fell on the ground, which was cleaned up shortly after.
3) 2 Servers were standing behind the raw bar using their phone. 1 was there for at least 10-15mins before the other joined. Not the greatest look.
It felt like our server was the only one really working. So, good on him and my rating is at 3 stars because he was able to provide the expected service. Service was more so impacted by the other staff members.
Restaurant decor was neat and sleek. Sat relatively comfortably.
A massive thank you to our server, Lorna, who made the evening truly special. Her service was attentive, professional, and added so much to the overall experience. Highly recommend!
The staff was amazing and our waitress DESERVED her tip, that was for sure! Even the man who came to wrap up our left overs (yes, establishment so fancy they take your food back to the kitchen to box it up FOR you) asked us how our meal was and genuinely cared if we had a good time. People walked in off the streets of Boston to grab a drink at the bar and the low lighting made you want to stay all evening and try a few more cocktails. If you ever get the grand opportunity of being able to have a meal here, I implore you do. Yes, the price tag was $$$, so it’s a special occasion only sort of thing, but they make SURE you feel special. Drinks on the house like the table beside us for their anniversary, or a complimentary sticky toffee pudding for my boyfriend’s birthday are just a couple of things they will do to make sure you enjoy your time and feel you spent your money well. I do plan to come back here one day, but on the next trip to Boston it’s Ramsays Burger Kitchen for a more affordable treat.
From the moment you walk I , all class!
Staff, atmosphere and decor as all on point.
I’ve also always wanted to try a beef Wellington, and where better to try one out.
Ordered Mac & cheese, beef Wellington and Caesar salad.
Beef Wellington is served with a mash puree, med rare and was amazing. Not sure I’ve had a nicer cut of meat. Seasoned very well. Standout!
Mac and cheese was also very good right balance of flavours, and the Caesar was also very good, with just enough dressing to coat but not overpower the dish.
An amazing experience.
Dinners like this as not cheap and you have that understanding before you go. So for a one off or special occasion or just cos, highly recommend.
We started off with the oysters and the crab cakes, which were both delicious. The crab cake was only comprised of fresh and sweet crab and no filler which is what made it so good. The side salad was also refreshing and a good balance to the richness of the crab cake. I will note that you only get 1 crab cake, which for the price is quite ridiculous. We then got the steak tartare which had a strong mustard flavor and not much else. The beef was a little chewy and it was overall bland for me.
For mains we got the beef Wellington and the lobster squid ink pasta with uni cream sauce. The beef Wellington is something I was looking forward to since it’s Gordon’s famous dish. While the mashed potatoes were very smooth and rich, I found the Wellington to be bland. The mushroom layer and the accompanying sauce were both under-seasoned and lacked a depth of flavor.
The squid ink pasta was my least favorite item of the night. The cavatappi shape felt wrong for the type of dish that this was. The sauce itself shockingly had a lack of seafood flavor despite it containing uni. There was a general lack of sauce. The pasta tasted like uncooked wheat (there was a chalkiness). The lobster was a bit rubbery.
What saved the night was the sticky date cake and ice cream which I didn’t post a picture of. The cake was perfectly decadent and moist and the sauce had that perfect deep toffee flavor.
Overall, I don’t think the restaurant deserves more than 3 stars considering the very big mismatch in flavor/quality of each dish and price. I wouldn’t dine at this particular location again, but would be curious to compare it to its West Coast counterparts.
The reservation time was honoured and wait staff promptly got us seated. The drink and food orders were taken in a timely manner and the food arrived in a timely manner.
The ambiance was casual and easy-going. The décor is vibrant and nice. All the dishes that we ordered were very delectable. The Lobster Bisque was very tasty and flavourful. The bread roll was one of the softest and tastiest once I had. The Chicken wings were so soft and juicy and delicious. The grilled chicken was also lip-smacking. The warm lobster roll is the best Lobster Roll I have had. It was fresh, warm and flavourful.
We had a chocolate mousse for dessert and it was very tasty too.
Highly recommend this restaurant as it is doing all the right things. Do not miss this when in Boston. A big thumbs up!
The lobster soup had 4 tiny pieces of lobster, I mean is the lobster population in crisis? Need more lobster pls.
