Relaxed atmosphere of a dive bar with killer food.

First note: they have the worst Diet Coke I have ever had in my entire life. Completely flat and tastes like it came out of a dirty gun.

HOWEVER every time I come here I get the chicken platter, Mac and cheese, and a tuna melt. The chicken is succulent with a beautiful breading and is piping hot every time. It is served with a sweet honey butter that goes beautifully with the biscuits as well. The biscuits are good but not mind blowing, they are small and served 3 per order. The Mac and cheese can be dry depending on the batch but this most recent visit was perfectly creamy but still firm enough to slice. It is a baked style. The tuna melt is one of my favorites in the city. It has a massive amount of tuna inside but feels lighter than others I have had. It almost takes like the tuna is whipped. I can’t figure out what they do to the tuna but it’s great. The best part about this place is that the kitchen is open late. We actually came this time because the restaurant we were trying to go to had closed their kitchen early. It’s really great having this option in the area.

I got dinner here last night with my favorite food creator and big bro, Rob Martinez. I’d never been to the Commodore, but when he suggested it, I accepted without a blink. A Rob recommendation is literal pixie dust.

I entered 8 minutes before our scheduled time because my pops always told me “if you’re on time, you’re late.” I entered and saw a 6’2 burly figure with a worn in nike hat and legendary beard sipping on a Negroni, and realized Rob beat me here. Damn… Negroni on a Monday is so beast though.

We got a little booth in the corner, and I decided to hop on the Negroni train. I normally don’t drink during the week, but sometimes the Negroni gods just force your hand. My nickname in college was actually “Post Negrone.”

Rob informed me that the hot chicken sandwich ($19) was the move, which checked out with my research from before dinner.

I never really stop and smell the roses, as comfort is the enemy of progress, but sitting in this dimly lit dive bar sipping negronis with one of the best food creators on the internet, and someone I really look up to, forced me to have a moment of appreciation.

Between bites of one of the best crispy chicken sandwiches I have ever had in my life, we were talking about writing, editing, our favorite restaurants, youtube thumbnails, algorithms, favorite authors, upcoming shoot schedules, and lofty long term goals that really had me pinching myself. Like damn I’m really doing this, you know? I felt like I was living someone else’s life, not mine. I didn’t even really know this was possible.

We deleted these chicken sandwiches, chips and queso, and 2 rounds of negronis as the table next to us turned 2 different times. What a night, provided by an iconic ambiance, sensational chicken sandwiches, and my old friend, the negroni.

Came here in the afternoon just as the kitchen was closing. Debated for a bit and ultimately decided to stay because I’ll not be denied of my chicken sandwich lol.

Started off with the Orange Julio, as if it’s the grownup Orange Julius. Two sips in and immediate brain freeze. The vibe is a bit chaotic but the bartenders did a great job making sure everyone is well-hydrated with drinks. Shortly before 5pm, my bartender gave me the food menu as if she could read my mind.

I got the mild breast sandwich and a small side of fries. The sandwich came out piping hot and prolly the juiciest chicken breast I’ve ever eaten. Could it be a wet brine process..? However, the chicken was a tad too salty for my taste. Still, I inhaled the sandwich. The fries were okay..? Nothing special but an adequate companion to my sandwich.

All in all, I was a very happy camper. I love the Commodore and I’ll be back for sure!

Can’t even count how many times I’ve been here. Love the fried chicken plate. Love the drinks. Medium is my favorite breast sandwich.

This place has the best djs w/ contemporary hits and the food slaps! The chicken is crack fr fr. Place gets busy on weekends with a ton college kids (kind of a bummer if you’re not into that crowd) so come early if you want to sit cuz there will be no indoor seats by 7pm. Place is always packed and a great vibe.

Such high hopes… such a letdown.
I was genuinely excited to finally try The Commodore, but unfortunately it missed the mark in a big way.

Let’s start with the positives: the ambiance is great. It’s divy with a touch of chic, and the drinks are actually very good. And… that’s where the praise ends.

The service was downright frustrating. We planned to grab drinks and fries at the bar, but only one of us could sit because a dog was occupying an entire bar chair. I love dogs. I have a dog. But a dog sitting on a chair at a bar where people are eating? Hard no. As a paying customer, I shouldn’t be competing with someone’s pet for seating. This should have been addressed immediately by the bartender, but it wasn’t.

Speaking of bartenders; they seemed far more interested in chatting with each other than acknowledging customers. Long stretches of being ignored made the experience feel unwelcoming and sloppy.
It’s a shame, because the space and drinks have potential. Unfortunately, poor service and lack of basic awareness completely overshadow it.

I won’t be returning, but thankfully the neighborhood has plenty of better options that actually value their customers.

I’ve been coming here for years and I have to say I’m pretty disappointed in what it’s regressed into. I do hope they can turn it around. Starting with the service: I’m not sure why they have a phone at all if they don’t answer it. I spent $30 on an Uber to get here so that I could order takeout food only for them to tell me that their kitchen is closed at 12 on Sundays and it’s not updated on their end. That would have been really helpful to know before I ordered a car from Park Slope to patronize this establishment. The rest of this review is based on the most recent time I went and sat down to eat which was about a few weeks ago. The food: The fried chicken itself is fried too hard and lacks seasoning. The hot chicken sandwich is pretty good I would recommend that and not much else. The drinks: I remember them being a lot better. I think it’s just okay now. Still, I think the rum punch is the best drink followed by their frozen cocktails.

The Commodore is not terrible or the worst by any means but it is somewhat a shell of what it used to be. I don’t know that they care all that much about improving, it seems to me they are thriving off of name recognition. Much needed improvements could turn me back into a regular. But right now I’m not seeing the vision.

This place has one of the best chicken sandwich and tuna melt ever. Came here with the wifey a couple of weeks back and it was packed. The drinks are insanely good — they didn’t hold back on the alcohol. Great service and prices were incredibly fair.

I’ve been coming to The Commodore for years, so it’s especially disappointing to share this experience. I came in for a food pickup recently and the quality of what I received did not match what I’ve come to expect from this place or what the menu promises.

What made the experience even worse was the treatment I received from the male bartender. I was met with a noticeably unwelcoming and dismissive attitude that felt racially motivated. While other patrons were greeted warmly and attended to promptly, I was ignored, treated rudely, and made to feel like I didn’t belong. No one should have to feel discriminated against when they’re simply trying to pick up food and go about their day.

As a long-time patron who has supported this establishment and recommended it to friends and family, this was a slap in the face. Between the underwhelming food and the discriminatory treatment from staff, I can no longer recommend this place. A bar can have great cocktails and trendy vibes, but none of that matters if your staff makes customers feel unwelcome based on the color of their skin. Management needs to address this it’s 2026, and there’s no excuse.

After years of loyalty, I won’t be returning.

For the record I’m a Black female.

I just don’t understand. Like how or why is it possible that this place has the most incredible chicken sandwich Ive ever tried in my life. Cheese sauce is heaven’s magma . I started at the fish tank during all my sandwich consumption. Very interesting and fantastic experience. I hope that whoever is reading this review enjoys this place as much as i did.
