1st visit ever. Just ordered the Tortilla soup at lunch for take out. Worst I’ve ever had, its horribly salty. It has great tone but the overload salt made me throw it away.
The cherry cobbler is good though.

I have eaten at the String Bean Restaurant many times since it opened in the original location in 1977. They serve high quality, freshly prepared home-style food. I went with a friend today, and we couldn’t decide on what to order. Everything on the menu is wonderful, so we decided to let René surprise us. She brought us the special meatloaf with mushrooms, mashed potatoes, rice & beans, and vegetable greens. Rolls and cornbread are also included. Coconut cream pie was perfect for dessert. The food was delicious! René was knowledgeable, courteous, professional, efficient, organized, focused, and friendly. She checked back several times to make sure everything was ok. It was. My friend & I had an excellent dining experience! Good food + good people who work here + good customer service = 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Google reviews!

Lovely place with down home cooking. Their food, ambiance and service all top notch. We tried the pot roast with mashed potatoes and black eyed peas and hubi had chicken fried chicken with seasoned fries and their glazed carrots. The peach cobbler was a hit as well. It was all super tasty. Loved sitting by their large window and taking in the views and the music they played on the speakers was top notch. You won’t be disappointed.

My wife and I used to eat here on our lunch breaks when we first met at work. Years later we finally made it back, and the food is just as good! The entree was the chicken and dumplings and our dessert was the coconut cream pie. The food and service did not disappoint.

A 5 star rating for the food is because the food is good tasting, is made in house from scratch, and finally, the food menu items are NEATLY PLACED ON THE PLATE, the basket, or bowl for the final presentation to the customer. The staff at String Bean knows that even the best prepared and best tasting food can upset the most critical customers to the point that they don’t come back. Such guests sometimes would settle for mediocre food at another restaurant presented very nicely, even if it’s 2 times as expensive as String Bean. This is not the case with me; cost, food safety, freshness, appearance, temperature, and taste are all important to me. If you have read some of my other reviews, you know I have a “Judge Judy” no nonsense approach and will tell you straight up how good or bad my experience is. I can have a “flame thrower” attitude, and will be blunt, ruthless, and even cold blooded if needed and will not feel bad about it. I do also appreciate all of you who read my reviews, and want you to benefit from the information I freely give away.

One restaurant chain that I refuse to visit that I once was a fan of is Applebee’s. This Georgia based chain is a sinking ship, because of their stingy and tiny food portions, bad attitude servers, and Applebee’s other shady buisiness practices. The owners, managers, and staff of String Bean know what their competitors do that can upset customers to the point of them never coming back, and try very hard to offer reasonably priced food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. By the way, Applebee’s and String Bean are the exact same price range for comparable comfort foods. String Bean, however, offers a punch card that gets 1 credit per visit. About 8 credits gets you a FREE MEAL! Applebee’s may have the same incentive, but I don’t dine there knowing I will get hassle filled, lousy service, mediocre food, and an overall most aggrevating experience. I WOULD RATHER JUST GO TO MCDONALD’S!!
The food at String Bean is fantastic in every way that food can be great. I love their cornbread, dinner rolls, hamburgers, green beans, mashed potatoes, fries, and black eyed peas. My only complaint is the dessert menu is limited, and their milkshakes taste like watered-down melting ice cream!! I just go to Braums next door for a hot caramel sundae after a nice meal at String Bean. Once again, I want to reiterate how much I like String Bean Restaurant, and have since 1988, back when I used to wear a denim jacket, had a black CASIO calculator watch on my wrist, wore penny loafer shoes, and grew my hair in a long tail. String Bean was on Spring Valley Road near U S. Highway 75 back then, but today, is on Campbell Road at Coit. Their faithful commitment to great service and delicious food to this day remains the same. This restaurant is not afraid to go up against the many fiercely competitive restaurants, a lot of them being long time corporate restaurant chains. In fact, the more the big chain restaurants change by cutting corners and going down in food quality, the more String Bean remains the same great dining experience since they first began in 1977. The owners really do care, and want you to know that they want you to come back. See the included picture with this posted review; it is a box of matches from String Bean Restaurant from 1990 when they were at their original location on Spring Valley Road.

Had a craving for some meatloaf and I found this place. I’m glad I did! They got a daily lunch special for $8.99anf they have good portion. I went with the meatloaf mashed potatoes with brown gravy and t mac and cheese. It was all delicious and I had to take some home. The corn bread was perfection. The lady who waited on me was also super nice and welcoming. I’ll definitely be going back for lunch.

place feels really worn out and honestly seems to have run its course as a restaursnt. food just doesnt taste even remotely fresh. nothing has any flavor to it. chicken and dumplings were gross too. used to be normal. now its like pieces of bread chopped up and mixed into this pudding like goop. exact same consistency. never seen it made like that ever.

Came about 12:45ish tail of lunch rush so I know what’s to be expected.
Took about 4-5 minutes for a greeting which is long even for this time of day.
Once greeted gave entie order.
Ordered Chicken Fried Steak, Fries, Collard Greens and Iced Tea. Was offered rolls and cornbread. Accepted 1 of each.
Drink came out quickly and food pretty quick after. Tea tasted great but a little sweet for my taste. Started with Collard Greens.. they were fantastic and the stars of the meal. Tasted fresh which seems odd for this time of year but they were well seasoned, not mushy, hot, and delicious. Fries were some sort of previously frozen product with a crispy coating, seasoning and not very potatoey. Chicken Fried Steak was also a previously frozen product and was warm not hot. Covered in a warm not hot liquidey cream gravy that was in the dire need of some cracked black pepper.
Roll was average. Cornbread was good but way too sweet for me as well. I want to taste corn not sugar. Breads were served with Margarine. Margarine should have died in the 90s real butter can’t cost too awful much more. Service after first late interaction was fantastic and attentive. Ill try again another time but realized why I haven’t been here in a while.
