Stopped in after an event I attended in the area, hoping they were still serving dinner. It was about 8:20pm and there were a few tables with diners. I was about to sit at the bar when a waitress asked if she could help me. I said I was hoping to get a bite to eat. She indicated that they close at 9pm, but she did come to the bar and offer a menu. I quickly perused the menu and ordered a draft beer and the Utica greens appetizer. She poured the beer and then reappeared shortly with a large basket of Italian bread with a whipped herbed butter. Less than 10 minutes later the heaping plate of greens arrives, steaming hot. The serving size was really nice and the greens were tasty, albeit fairly spicy. I ended up eating a small amount and then packaging the rest to take with me, and paying the bill all before 9pm.

The menu was large and if I had not felt rushed to select something that was simple to cook, I probably would have tried something different. I also planned to get some baked goods but felt too rushed to head to the back where the pastry case was.

The food is always amazing and plentiful. Service is excellent. They listen to you and are happy to assist. It’s a very old building which is appreciated by me but may not be so appealing to others. The greens are the best around and that’s saying something for the Rome/Utica area. The desserts, OMG!!! They are nothing short of incredible!

I enjoyed this restaurant with my family very much. We went for lunch and there was a great selection of lunch specials in addition to their regular menu. We did not wait more than two minutes for a table. Our waitress was friendly and checked up on our table frequently. As soon as we sat down our waitress asked us what would we like to drink and brought us some soft bread with this delicious butter garlic. Our drinks came out fast as well as our food. My sister had the Mac and Cheese. She said she especially liked theirs because it tasted sweet and not like other restaurants who sometimes use sharper cheeses in this dish. The fries must have been good because the little one ate all of them. The steak sandwich was nice. The bread was soft and the steak filling was a good portion. I would say maybe they could offer some kind of steak sauce on the side or add a vegetable side to this dish (thus why only 4 stars). Overall, this restaurant was great and my sister said she definitely wants to go back soon.

To be honest, there are no words to describe how amazing our meals were. We had the Shitake Mushroom Ravioli and the Chicken Parmesan with side Caesar Salads. WOW. The sauces, texture, flavour….just incredible!!! Our waitress was the sweetest, as were the rest of the staff!!! Portions are huge and we’re excited for seconds, possibly thirds later!!! Thank you for a wonderful experience!!!

The food was over the top good! I had a bowl of chicken soup that was definitely homemade and delicious! I also had a chicken sandwich which sounds so boring but it was so moist and full of flavor! I brought my left overs home and had enough to make a grilled chicken salad for dinner! Unfortunately our waitress (who was very sweet) was a bit forgetful and didn’t write things down. She got my drink wrong (it was easy, Diet Coke) and then forgot to bring me the replacement until the food came. Ok…no biggie, the worst part was we ordered a Mozzarella and Tomato salad (originally was going to be my meal but we decided to share it at the table). Well that she completely forgot, even after we reminded her. So no salad. It wasn’t a game changer though I would go backnin a heartbeat! At least the girl was sweet. It’s the rude ines I won’t return for. Definitely a go to place!!! Highly recommend!!!

Been coming here for years, and those in the area know of the Franklin’s reputation. What it may lack in ambiance, it more than makes up for it with the quality of their food.

This time we had takeout, and it is as good as its ever been. Their greens are the best in the area, in my opinion. They may technically called “utica” greens in the area, but the Franklin does them better than anyplace in the area.

We had the vodka riggies, and my wife, a confessed riggie-snob loves theirs. Let’s face it, when it comes to riggies, the sauce is everything…I mean pasta is pasta, and chicken is chicken, so it all comes down to the sauce, and the Franklin has the perfect blend of tomato sauce and cream making the slightly creamy sauce rich and tasty – one of the best in the area.

The stuffed rigatoni was also delicious, despite it coming in straight marinara instead of the meat sauce listed on the menu… it’s my favorite sauce they do, so it was a bit disappointing this time around.

Anyway, the Franklin endures for a reason, and when friends and family come to town, it’s a top choice. Big portions, reasonable prices…and again if you want upscale decor try someplace else…but you’ll be missing out on a delicious meal.

And be careful when you walk in the place… the strategically placed dessert display case is hard to pass by without ordering something…

No glitz with this place just a fantastic more rustic restaurant that is just incredible! The lunch menu is so big it’s hard to pick what you want because everything just looks delicious. Service was fantastic and the dessert case would put me in a diabetic comma … Never been here before but I will be back !

I went for lunch and it was beyond delicious. I got pasta of the day linguine with sausage and peppers, and it was terrific . The sausage tasted homemade, and it wS a cross between sweet and hot. I will call it just perfect. Service was awesome ,quick, and attentive. On the way out, I picked up babka bread and garlic rolls . Both are delicious. I was pleasantly surprised that they now take credit cards also . Next time, I will be getting lunch and a dinner or two to go.
