Food is top notch Food is vegan with no onion no garlic. Salads, gravies, sweets, appetizers, sabji (vegetable in masala) along with a bread option (poori/roti).
Ambience is great & has the ISKCON vibe Sbtle instrumental music in the background.

Nut allergy warning: I can’t recommend eating here if you have a severe allergy. Although dishes are clearly labeled with ingredients, I still had an allergic reaction with a dish. Since the dishes are different every day, there’s really no guarantee that you’ll be safe, and cross contamination is a possibility since it’s a buffet line. I tried to email ahead of time but never got a reply.

We arrived around noon on a Wednesday and there was plenty of seating inside. There is a lot directly across the street for Govinda’s customers.

Cafeteria buffet-style line. Don’t overcrowd your plate, just go back for seconds.
Since the menu changes daily, I don’t think there’s much of a point to review specific dishes. I will say that there’s a nice variety of salad, soup, and homemade feeling Indian dishes that everyone really liked. I particularly enjoyed the salad dressing (an avocado cream), the veggie lentil soup, and the spinach potato dish. Unfortunately, the special of the day or a dish near it (the soya Manchurian? Or the curry?) triggered some kind of inflammatory allergic reaction for me, so I had to stop eating. I did try some of the mango cake, which had a great soft and moist texture that I’d definitely have again.

-1 star because of the allergic reaction but overall, everyone I went with really enjoyed the food and the service was welcoming and attentive for a buffet. The ambiance is great and it’s a lovely setting all around.

Govinda’s Vegetarian Restaurant in Houston is a peaceful spot serving wholesome Indian meals right next to the temple. The buffet is fresh, flavorful, and offers great vegan options—especially on weekends. The staff is warm, and the ambiance feels calm and spiritual. However, the Madras coffee could use an upgrade—it tastes more like a premix than the real deal. Still, a lovely place for soulful dining!

We visited this vegetarian buffet spot and were pleasantly surprised by how fresh and flavorful everything was. The variety of dishes was impressive, and each item tasted homely and well-seasoned. What stood out the most was their service — they bring freshly made hot rotis to your table whenever you need, which really elevates the whole experience. A must-visit for anyone who enjoys comforting, wholesome vegetarian food!

This is for the service by that Indian bloke named Brijal Soni.

I had a dinner buffet for $13.95 on 3/2/26.

Food was good. I ate my fill.

They didn’t even bother giving me water and ice. My colleague who wasn’t eating got me water first time for refill and I walked over to get ice the second time.

The other customers were treated better.

Forget Krishna consciousness, these people lack basic decency/etiquettes towards people!

Hands-down one of the best vegetarian spots in Houston! The buffet is incredible—fresh, flavorful Indian dishes made with high-quality ingredients, no garlic/onions/mushrooms, and everything tastes so authentic and wholesome. We went for lunch and loved the variety: saag paneer (creamy and perfect), vegetable korma, chana masala, kofta balls, dal, rice, flatbreads, salads, and rotating specials. On vegan days (Wed/Fri/Sun) it’s even better if you’re plant-based. The atmosphere is serene and peaceful (right next to the temple), service is friendly and attentive, and the whole experience feels nourishing for body and soul. Spent about $40-50 pp with drinks—totally worth it for the quality and portion sizes. Great for vegetarians, vegans, or anyone craving healthy, delicious Indian food. We’ll be back often

Govinda’s in Houston is a true hidden gem. The food is fresh, flavorful, and made with so much care—you can truly feel the love and devotion in every dish. Everything we tried was nourishing, comforting, and perfectly seasoned, making it one of the best vegetarian/vegan dining experiences in the area.

The atmosphere is peaceful and welcoming, with a calm, spiritual energy that makes the meal feel unhurried and special. The staff and volunteers are kind, warm, and genuinely hospitable, which adds so much to the experience.

After your meal, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the beautiful temple next door—it completes the experience and makes the visit even more meaningful. A must-visit spot in Houston for wholesome food and spiritual nourishment.

I am so happy to have discovered Govinda’s! This vegetarian buffet is affordable and clean. Their buffet options change daily and the bread is made from scratch.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating to myself and friend group. I wasn’t a tofu fan until trying their tofu chicken – so good! Sometimes “healthy” food isn’t very filling, however the buffet setup ensured no one left hungry.

Parking is available onsite in a lot across the street. The building and walk-up to Govinda’s was stunning. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a healthy meal and relaxing ambiance!
