The chicken sausages are amazing, and the bread is perfect for easy eating. I love to add onions and sweet peppers. This time, I had red cabbage, some fries, a beer, and their incredible Apfelstrudel for dessert.
If you’re looking for a place to relax and feel safe, even when others are enjoying their beers, you should definitely come here. It’s a family-friendly environment, and we always go with our child or take our family members who are visiting us.
Even though it is not easy to find a parking spot, it is worth the effort to find a place.
Cheers!
The 72$ huge platter is the bomb :)))
Easily feeds 3-4 people.
Totally recommend it.
Staff is also super super sweet
We decided to try a few different items and were absolutely blown away. The mixed platter was a fantastic way to sample a variety of their offerings, and each component was bursting with flavor. The honey baked Brie was an absolute standout – creamy, sweet, and utterly divine. The soft pretzel was perfectly baked, with a lovely chewy texture and just the right amount of salt, and the accompanying mustard was excellent. Even the simple cucumber salad was fresh and refreshing, providing a nice counterpoint to the richer dishes.
Honestly, every single dish we ordered exceeded our expectations. The quality of the ingredients was evident, and the care taken in the preparation shone through. It’s clear that Max Bratwurst und Bier Astoria pays attention to the details, both in their food and their service. We left feeling completely satisfied and are already looking forward to our next visit. If you’re looking for delicious food, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere, look no further than Max Bratwurst und Bier Astoria! Highly, highly recommended.
We will be back for the sausages and apple strudel!
All I know is I liked what I had and there is lots more to try! Not to mention they have ample outdoors seating! Can’t go wrong with bratwurst and beer on a hot sunny day!
That said, my wife and I recently moved from one end of 30th Ave to the other and now live about five minutes walk from this place. Also I’ve had about five friends recommend this place. So, when my best friend/former roommate came to visit us from Newark we went here.
We ordered three bratwurst plates and a chicken schnitzel along with a pretzel for app. The pretzel was great and the cheese dip reminded me of pimento cheese. Our mileage varied with the main dishes. The chicken schnitzel was surprisingly good; the andouille sausage and chicken sausage were also great (my friend got the veal sausage and loved it though I didn’t try). In terms of side dishes, there was a lot of discrepancy in quality. The cold salads we got (cucumber and white cabbage) were both great. The cucumber was amazing. The hot red cabbage and hot potato salad were also good. The mashed potatoes were super bland and the regular sauerkraut was very meh and one dimensional.
The service was honestly not great—especially considering that the restaurant was not crowded. The server would often wander by our table (we sat outside) and not check in at all—we had to yell at her to get her to come to the table—and again it wasn’t crowded. We were one of three outside tables. Also the music was straight up trash. Like a lot of weird dumb chill wave vibes.
So, in summary: if you like German food, it really is good (with the exceptions noted in this review) and high quality. However, I would not willingly go back except my parents are coming in a few months and love this kind of underseasoned food so I’ll probably go with them.
We had a great experience dining at Max Bratwurst und Bier. The servers were incredibly accommodating and even offered beer samples to help us choose the perfect pint—which was such a thoughtful touch and made us feel welcome right away.
The menu had a variety of bratwurst flavors, and we tried the beef, jalapeño and cheddar, beer and cheese, and veal. Each one was delicious, but the beer and cheese brat stood out as a clear favorite—flavorful, juicy, and paired perfectly with our drinks.
On the server’s recommendation, we also ordered the mac and cheese (with bacon added), and it absolutely hit the spot. Creamy, rich, and indulgent—just the way comfort food should be.
There’s plenty of outdoor seating, which is a big plus, especially for casual hangouts or group get-togethers. We’ll definitely be back to explore more of their menu. Another wonderful spot in Astoria worth visiting!
