We tried their BBQ pork and pork belly banh mi sandwiches which were delicious. The baguette was crisp plus there was a good amount of veggie filling. The salmon in our salmon roll was excellent but the filling was just okay. The accompanying zesty green sauce made it tasty. We ordered and paid in advance but had to wait about 5 minutes when we came for pick up. There are multiple cases of grab and go sauces, side dishes and Vietnamese pastries. Several food cases had New Year’s appetizers too. Note there is no onsite seating, just grab and go. Ba Le is in an Asian shopping center with lots of free parking. We appreciated that they did identify vegetarian and vegan options on their online menu.

The chicken banh mi i got was atrocious. Flavorless full of tendon and fat , no where near regular Lemongrass chicken you get from restaurants. It tasted just as it looked , bad.

There was a pink water chestnut drink Tasted half like nail polish remover and the half like decent sweet drink. However I could not get over the nail polish remover taste. We had other ppl try it. And she spit it out immediately. Had the baby try it and the smell made the baby gag. Something was wrong with it.

Ordered a #2 Crispy pork belly Dac Biet Banh mi on 09/23/2025. Only 1 of 3 pieces of pork belly was actually crispy and the other 2 pieces were soggy. Aside from that I loved that the pork roll and ham were sliced thinner than the usual thicker cut. I was hoping the thinner cut was intentional and not an accident.
Today, 10/12/2025, I ordered the #1 Dac Biet Special because the crispy pork belly is not consistently crispy. I was looking forward to the thinner cut of pork roll and ham but unfortunately the cut this time was thicker than last month.

Love this place and prefer crispy pork belly that’s consistently crispy and thinly cut pork roll and ham. I am hoping for this consistency the next time I return. Giving 4 stars versus 5 stars due to the inconsistency.

Thickest & densest bánh tiêu I have ever seen. Couldn’t even eat them or get a refund!! Terrrible!! Cashier thrown my food in the bags, literally thrown them. Would give 0 star for all if I can. No more!

I have had pandan cake before but this one taste wierd, the cake itself was not sweet in my past experience it was a slightly sweet, even if it wasn’t sweet it was fine because it had the sugar dipping sauce however it had a weird after taste I am not sure what it was but it was kinda like a plastic ? Weird taste and somehow the cake was wet it was like slime water at the bottom so I put it on the plate and I had to throw away the whole box,l

So I found out this place is one the OG Vietnamese bakeries of Philly. They bake their own baguettes and its honestly something I’ve never had in a banh mi. The bread itself was actually kind of soft and chewy, so even when I had my sandwich toasted it did not commit violence to my mouth (it did not cut up my mouth) nor did it disintegrate into bread crumbs! lol. So the bread was super impressive and tasty. You can buy a pack to-go if you’d like.

I ordered the roast pork belly banh mi (#2) and it was wonderful. It had the fat, the crunchy skin, the meatiness and the nice pickled veg. I honestly wasn’t hungry in the morning but after taking 1 bite I had eat the entire banh mi in 2 minutes. It was really good. And they also offer tons of little rice boxes, hams, sausages, and sticky rice goods.

If you’re ever around Philly you have to give it a try! I’ll definitely be back.

This place definitely hits the spot if you’re craving banh mi, without hurting your wallet!
The price is great for the size of the banh mi, which is big enough to share between two people.
I also love their Vietnamese coffee, strong, refreshing, and just the right taste for me.

Parking is easy since it’s in a plaza, but there aren’t any dine-in tables, so you’ll probably end up enjoying your banh mi in the car.

This place was wonderful! Small entrance and space for the customers but the food was fantastic ! The customer service is on point, very helpful and fast service. You can order Banh Mi sandwiches of all sorts. Food cold section has really good sauces and the fried bananas… omg. You must endeavor to get here for a snack…

Honestly, I’m so disappointed. I used to come here a lot for their wonderful banh mi, but for the price and the drive, it’s just not worth it anymore. I got the crispy pork banh mi, and when I opened it, I honestly thought I got the wrong order—until I saw just two soggy pieces of pork belly in the sandwich. It used to be good and worth the price, but not anymore.

honestly gotta be the best banh mi in philly — no where else compares to here. i get the lemongrass chicken banh mi all the time and always wish i bought a second one. super flavorful and delicious. sometimes there’s small bones, but it tastes so good that i don’t care. i’ve been here since i was a kid and i’ll keep coming back. i saw recently that they’ve come out with an eggplant banh mi — i’ll be back for that.
