Definitely a good stop but I agree w other reviewer. Food is good but could use something to bring it to a more upscale flavor. Service was good but slow. We had flaming cheese, it was good but almost too salty to eat. I had spinakopita it was good. My bf had a gyro. He said it was good.

Some of the best meals happen when you follow curiosity instead of GPS.

I was taking an afternoon drive around the San Tan Mountains, wandered into Florence, and landed at Mt Athos Restaurant & Cafe.

Family-owned and warm from the moment you walk in. Mom greets you like you’re coming home. Daughter Patty waited on us with genuine kindness. No pretense. Just hospitality.

Their gyro meat is shipped in from Chicago (and yes… you can taste the difference): juicy, deeply seasoned, and anything but dry. The meatballs were rich and comforting. The fresh tzatziki was bright, creamy, and exactly what it should be. Every bite felt intentional.

This isn’t trendy Greek.
This is comfort Greek. The kind that sticks with you.

Phenomenal meal. Arizona exploring. Full heart. ✨

If you find yourself anywhere near Florence, don’t overthink it. Just go.

We stopped for lunch after a visit to the monastery. Service was great, the wait for our food was a little long but everything is made from scratch. I had spanakopita and baklava. The spanakopita was delicious and stayed piping hot until I took the last bite and the salad that came with it had dolmades. The baklava was a little tough (filo dough), but the inside was superb.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mt Athos Restaurant & Cafe offers solid Mediterranean food with very generous portion sizes. The falafel was flavorful, well-seasoned, and nicely cooked, making it a satisfying vegetarian option. Portions are huge and definitely good value for the price—easy to share or take leftovers home.

Service was friendly, and the menu has plenty of options to choose from. While the food was good overall, a bit more refinement in flavor would have made it stand out even more. Still, a great spot if you’re hungry and looking for hearty Mediterranean fare.

If you’re looking for an amazing breakfast, Mount Athos is the place to go! Pete goes above and beyond to make every visit special. The food is always fresh, delicious, and perfectly prepared — truly the best way to start the day. Breakfast is served Monday through Saturday from 6 to 10, making it the perfect spot whether you’re an early riser or prefer a later morning treat. And if you can’t make it for breakfast, lunch and dinner are just as amazing! The service is warm and welcoming, and you can tell Pete genuinely cares about his guests. I can’t recommend this spot enough for anyone who loves great food with a personal touch.

I had the best potatoes of my whole life at Mt Athos. They are the lemon roasted potatoes. But, that was only one of the highlights of this restaurant. Their dolmas were also a 5 star item on their menu. There was hardly any room in our stomachs for the giro sandwiches we had. So we brought them home and we’re having them for lunch tomorrow. We scored big time today.

Incredible experience! Fantastic value. Large portions. Top notch service from walking through the door right to the end. My wife and I both had a gyro sandwich. Over the top. I don’t recall ever having beef as tender as this. The pita was warm, moist and fresh. My coffee was served with a napkin between the cup and saucer. That’s a small thing for sure, but it shows just how thoughtful the staff is. Each gyro was served with a humongous half-crunchy dill pickle. This was our first time here but we will return and we highly recommend Mt Athos. We arrived a few minutes after opening at 11:00 am and by the time we were through with lunch the place was filling up. Locals love it.

A Hidden Gem: Delivers on Flavor, Value, and Freshness
Finding a truly exceptional restaurant is a rare treat, and Mt Athos in Arizona is precisely that—a hidden gem that exceeded all expectations. This family-owned Greek spot offers an experience that’s as authentic as it is delicious, making it a must-visit for anyone craving incredible food without breaking the bank.
From the moment we walked in, the service was attentive and welcoming, setting a pleasant tone for our meal. But it’s the food that truly shines here. The quality and freshness of every ingredient were evident, a testament to the care put into each dish. My wife raved about her veggie pita, highlighting its vibrant flavors and generous fillings. Our son, a discerning burger critic, declared his hand-pressed burger the best he’s ever had—a bittersweet moment for me, as I pride myself on my own burger-making skills, but ultimately a joyous one seeing his pure enjoyment. My falafel pita was equally outstanding, with perfectly cooked falafel and a pita that was incredibly soft and fresh. The fries were piping hot and crispy, though honestly, the pitas are so substantial and filling that I might skip the fries next time to save room! Even the water and ice were refreshingly clean-tasting, a small but significant detail in Arizona where that’s not always a given.
One of the most surprising aspects was the incredible value for the price. For a family of three, including dessert, our bill came out to a mere $60. In today’s economy, that’s an absolute steal, especially considering the generous portion sizes and the sheer quality of the food. It truly made the cost “not sting so bad,” as the deliciousness overshadowed any thought of the price.
Despite its undeniable quality, the restaurant was surprisingly quiet during our visit, which honestly shocked us given how fantastic everything was. The only minor drawback we encountered was the parking, which was a bit of a hassle. However, this is a small inconvenience when weighed against the overwhelming positives.
We left feeling completely stuffed and utterly satisfied, already planning our next visit. Mt Athos is easily a five-star experience in our book, a place where you’ll find incredible food, exceptional value, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back for more! Oh and they have a full bar in case that matters to you.
