I was here with some friends just under two weeks ago, and it was a nice experience.

Parking was a little difficult but only because the Knox–Henderson area is busy on weekend nights, but I didn’t mind the walk. Even though it was packed enough to make finding a table also somewhat difficult, I was with a large group of > 20 people.

After finding a spot, I decided to order the Stilton burger and their house salad, both of which were fantastic. Despite not being the most frequent bar attendee, I’d happily return to the Old Monk and try more of the food for its great taste and for the staff’s warm service.

Great vibe with delicious food. They really have the best fish and chips in town! Cheeseburger was also pretty good.

We used to come here all the time before we moved from the area. We came back today it was great as usual. I typically get the chicken strips because they might be my favorite in Dallas. Today I went with the chicken, biscuits, and gravy on the brunch menu. While I thought it was good, I regretted not getting the chicken strips. They are too good! The rest of the group got a salad and eggs Benedict and said it was great (pictured). A dog friendly patio is a plus and the staff immediately brought us a dog bowl. Highly recommend if you want a casual bite with good drinks!

This is one of my favorite Knox/Henderson bars. The food is spectacular, the location is awesome (they even have free parking) and the ambiance is pure Dallas awesome. The prices are decent and the selection of draft/ bottled beer is excellent. I love their cheeseburgers! Extra props for the propane heaters outside. They keep it warm enough to sit outside all winter.

I came for “just one pint” and left three days later wearing someone else’s sweater, speaking in a questionable accent, and convinced I’m 1/16th Irish on my mother’s side (DNA test still pending).
The Guinness is poured so perfectly it should be in the Louvre. The bartender, Austin (I’m pretty sure that’s his real name and not just what he tells customers), has the patience of a saint and the sarcasm of a man who’s been asked “Do you have anything like Guinness but less dark?” one too many times.
Highlights:
The fish & chips were so good I briefly considered converting to Catholicism just so I could thank God properly. The bathroom graffiti is poetic. “Roses are red, violets are blue, I came for a piss and met half the crew.” – actual quote.
Then you’ve got Hannah, who’s basically the pub’s chaos coordinator. She’s got blonde hair that could guide ships in a fog and a laugh that echoes like a banshee having a great time. Don’t sleep on Wes (we call him that because he only speaks when absolutely necessary, like when someone tries to pay with a Venmo request titled “beer debt”). He’ll nod once, slide you your drink, and if you’re lucky, mutter something profound like “Life’s short, drink good stout.” Then he disappears to polish glasses like he’s auditioning for a monastery. Absolute mystery man, 10/10 enigma.
And rounding out the crew is Paige, the wildcard. She’s got stories that start with “Back in then…” and end with police chases, lost sheep, and at least one exploding still. She’ll flirt with your grandma, roast your ex in three sentences or less.
These four run the bar like a well-oiled dysfunctional family. They banter with each other louder than the jukebox, remember birthdays you forgot you told them, and have an unspoken code: if you’re having a rough night, they’ll slide you a free shot and pretend it was a mistake. If you’re being a gobshite, they’ll roast you into next week without missing a pour.

Sit wherever you want. It’s nice out on the patio when the weather is good.

The fish was crispy and tasty with the side tartar sauce, not fishy tasting. The fries were seasoned great and I think you could ask for the skinny fries if you prefer those. Free drink samples on beer if you are unsure which you would prefer!

The Classic All-Rounder (5/5)
The Old Monk remains a Henderson Avenue staple for a reason. Whether you’re looking for a perfectly poured Guinness, a massive selection of Belgian beers, or actually good pub food, this is the spot. The atmosphere is cozy and authentic—it feels like a real neighborhood local. Don’t skip the fish and chips!

This is a lovely brunch spot in a trendy neighborhood. Their mimosas are good and the fish and chips were delicious. They provided malt vinegar on the table.
This is a great place to relax on a Sunday and people-watch; plus our server was very pleasant and attentive.
