Sadly – the biggest problem I had here was limited stomach capacity. The seafood is off the hook – pun intended.
Fresh, well prepared and delicious.
And South African grilled calamar/chokka is the best. Meaty, tender and so satisfying. Top notch food and service.

The customer service was exceptional; staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Even without a booking, they went out of their way to accommodate us, which was very much appreciated. It’s this kind of warmth, genuine hospitality I’ve come to really appreciate in SA.

The food was good, though it does take a little while to come out but the menu clearly mentions that everything is freshly prepared to order, so that’s fair enough.

The tartare sauce wasn’t quite what I’d consider a classic tartare sauce….. not bad, just different. The mussels, which I’ve come to find in SA is typically served here in a thick creamy garlic sauce, tend to hide what’s underneath, which makes me a little apprehensive to order them. In this particular portion, one of the mussels still had the beard attached, which really put me off the rest. Ideally, that should be checked before serving.

That said, the overall experience was fantastic. The atmosphere, service, and genuine care from the team make this a place I’d happily return to. Just be prepared to wait a little because good food (and great service) clearly take time.

Incredible setting on the harbour. They were launching a new catamaran while we were there – very interesting to watch. Amazing atmosphere. You have to try the local calamari done 3 ways – rings, wings, and heads. Clive, the owner is very friendly and informative regarding the local squid industry and the area.

Delicious food in a historic location. This restaurant is very popular with locals. It is one of the few places in South Africa where you can enjoy locally caught calamari, since almost all St Francis calamari is exported at premium prices.

The portions are very generous, and the pricing is reasonable considering that it caters mainly to tourists.

Make sure to make a reservation and show up for it because it’s always fully booked from Friday to Sunday.
