El Charro in Gering, Nebraska is a great stop for Mexican food if you’re visiting the Scottsbluff area for the Monument Marathon or exploring Scotts Bluff National Monument. We stopped in during race weekend and learned the restaurant actually started as a local food truck before opening this location.
The menu had a lot of variety, and the staff was incredibly patient while I worked through the pronunciations. Our table shared fajitas, tacos, and carne asada street-style tacos topped with onion and cilantro, and everything came out quickly.
I also tried a horchata, and several of us had Mexican Coke in the glass bottles, which was a nice touch. My daughter had a simple tortilla and cheese, which she loved — she’s currently in a tortillas-and-cheese phase.
Traveling with a toddler can sometimes be stressful, but the staff made it easy. They offered a booster seat, high chair, and a cup with a lid, and they even brought crayons and a coloring sheet to keep her entertained.
Service was fast, the atmosphere was relaxed, and prices were reasonable. If you’re in Gering or Scottsbluff, give me ❤️ if you plan to visit.
