Found this place while cruising down Lakeshore Drive, and I’m so glad we stopped. If you’re looking for a chill spot with a great view of the lake in St. Joe, this is it. It has that perfect beach town vibe – relaxed and friendly, but with enough of a buzz to feel lively. It seemed like a cool mix of locals grabbing a beer and visitors like us.
The menu had a bunch of stuff that looked good, but our server recommended the Wonton Nachos, and wow, they were something else. Super creative and way more fun than regular nachos. For my main, I got a smash burger. I’m pretty picky about burgers, and this one was legit – juicy, with those perfect crispy edges. The service was great, too. Our waitress was super friendly and on top of everything, even though it was pretty busy.
Honestly, you can’t go wrong here. It’s the perfect place to grab a casual dinner or just hang out with a drink and watch the sunset over Lake Michigan. It feels like a real local spot, not a tourist trap. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town.
Love this place!! Dive in the best way possible!
– Hamburger – $9: Excellent value! Ordered with American cheese for $1 extra and it was melted nicely. It was a little heavier on the cheese and it works really well for this burger.
The burger was very thick and super juicy (half pound?). I ordered it medium and it came medium. It was a bit of a slightly different flavor. I am guessing they infuse their burger with a very subtle and light sauce or butter. It was delicious.
It had ketchup, mustard, pickle (I always skip pickles), and onion. The onion was a nice addition. The sauces were a bit on the heavier side and made the burger slide around a bit, but it was manageable. The bun was a perfect fit and toasted.
– Skinny Fries (came with burger): Thin to medium fries, similar to shoestring fries. Though they are cut on the thinner side, they stayed warm all the way through the meal easily.
They had Western Son vodka with multiple flavors. I’ve not seen this brand before. I did not try it, but it did stand out to me.
They have a couple of specials. Wing Wednesday: for $6 you get 8 wings. Fish Friday: no price listed on the menu, but other menu pictures indicated about $9. Both are dine-in specials only.
– Service: Amazing! My waitress was really positive and always had a smile. Super kind and helpful. She was getting me another water before I even realized I needed it. It was somewhat busy, but she was still attentive and exact with the standard time frames of follow up.
I told her she was one of my favorite waitresses this year and she said she’d been doing it all her life. I can really tell. Give that woman a raise!
The burger came out fairly quickly. About what you’d expect for a standard burger made to order.
– Atmosphere: It looks unassuming on the outside, but definitely not on the inside. It was kept very clean. There were a number of TVs with sports and other things on. There was music playing and it was a medium to loud volume. It was 70’s rock.
Strong and rich wood tones set the feel and warmth of a friendly moment shared with friends and family.
They had a pool table being used with a mom and her child. There was also a lowkey biker group who also stopped by and were having a great moment together. An older couple were quietly enjoying a meal together. A couple of older ladies were laughing at the bar over drinks. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their moments. It lit up my day. It was more than a burger visit for me. Though I was alone for a quick bite, it made me slow down and appreciate life before I dove back into what I was visiting Saint Joseph for. Thanks a lot for that!!
– Conclusion: I’d HIGHLY recommend this place if you are in Saint Joseph. I did a very quick and superficial search for the best burger in Saint Joseph and got more than a great burger. Their service was amazing.
Visited at 1pm on a Saturday.
Service: 5/5 (lovely service, intentional, great!)
Atmosphere: 5/5 (great music, great entertainment!)
Sandbar & Grille! Oh, what a lovely restaurant! I enjoyed every part of this restaurant! Beautiful restaurant in Saint Joseph, MI. They are open while during construction, so please be sure not to pass them up.
The food is remarkable. We had the jumbo buffalo wings, perch basket, one of the burgers, hush puppies, and Butter Melt Smash Burger! Every dish was soooooooooo good! I enjoyed the extra taste of hotsauce and malt vinegar with the perch. The wings and the perch were the favorite!
The service was intentionally and on point. I’m not sure of our direct server’s name, but her coworker, Beth, is a beautiful soul. As I am a huge water drinker, I appreciated the water pitcher to use as my cup. The way they greet and serve people is amazing!
The atmosphere has a great vibe. I love the televisions and the different types of music. I can only imagine at night how the vibe and food lift the crowd. Very great restaurant! All in all, it’s one of my favorite places!
