Everything I’ve had here is fantastic! We’ve tried all the styles of pizza and I love all of them. The broasted potatoes are perfectly crispy and delicious, and their seasonal drinks are great too! The staff is really warm and friendly and the view of the lake it’s on is spectacular!

Beautiful outdoor patio, yummy food and they allow dogs on their patio. We ordered bruschetta and their 4 piece chicken dinner. It was yumm. Our server was very friendly and accommodating! Would certainly recommend!!

I’ve lived in the Long Grove area for nearly 15 years and had no clue this place existed! I’m incredibly picky when it comes to pizza, but I can honestly say this is the best thin crust in the area. A total hidden gem!!

Joanie’s Pizza is yummy! We came for their vegetarian pizza and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere inside is really cute and welcoming, and the staff was incredibly friendly and upbeat. You can tell they really care about the food and the experience. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back with friends next time.

The only downside was the parking situation. There’s a shared lot, and while it’s free (which is great), we had to circle around a few times before finding a spot. It was a weekend, so that probably made it a little more hectic. Once we got inside, though, the great service and delicious food more than made up for it. Just plan for a little extra time if you’re coming during a busy hour it’s worth it!

We’ve been twice this week. Delicious broasted chicken and wonderful thin and thick pizza. They make their own sausage which is really great. Tina was our waitstaff gal both times. She’s terrific. The owners must know how great she is for their business.

Updated review Aug 2025:

Joanie’s has quickly become our favorite pizza place here in the northern burbs. Both The Village and The Florentine are fantastic. I love how they get that amazingly crispy outer crust, but the vegetables still retain their crisp and flavor as well. So many other places overcook the veggies.

We also really enjoy interacting with Tina. She makes a killer cocktail- both her famous Sangria and her margarita. Don’t expect a bunch of simple syrup and sugar in these, she makes them perfectly balanced without all that artificial stuff. Thanks for taking such good care of us!

And…we’re on our way to Italy this December to enjoy all that Roman and Neapolitan style pizza, but Joanie’s will always be our favorite Detroit-style pizza here in Chicago.

Original review 2024:

It’s patio season in Chicago, y’all, and what a perfect way to welcome the season than Joanie’s patio!

We came here to enjoy our first-ever (I know, but really ) Detroit-style pizza. We had never tried it before because we’re not big into heavy crust on pizza, so typically choose thin crust (tavern-style) or Neapolitan-style pizza, and just won’t eat the rim of the crust.

This, however, was a complete surprise! The crust was so pillowy soft, not heavy and incredibly crispy on the sides and bottom. It was one of the best pizzas we have had in Chicago!!!

And, I don’t even like Italian sausage normally, as it takes over the flavor of everything, but this pizza was so perfectly balanced with toppings and sauce, that the Italian sausage just blended in and added the right kind of saltiness to the pizza.

Recommended: The Village Detroit- Style

We also had a small garden salad. I appreciate that they put the dressing in the side so you can choose how much you want and the salad isn’t swimming in dressing.

Based on the recommendation of many, we tried the Broasted Chicken, and the first bite took me back to my childhood. It is the kind of homemade chicken that you might have experienced at a big family reunion or gathering during the summer. So incredibly memorable, not overly oily, and really great crunch on the skin.

We will definitely be back for the great food, that amazing patio, and the friendly service!!!

My only gripe is that their wine by the glass prices are a bit overpriced for the amount poured. The quality of the Sauvignon Blanc I had would have been reasonable at the $8-9 mark, but at $13 was not really worth it. Considered having a 6oz and 9oz pour at your current price points, as $13 was way too expensive for a 6oz.

At Joanie’s Pizza, the pizza, broasted chicken and simple fresh side salads are our favorites here. We should try more of the menu since it’s probably all good. Everyone in our family loves it. The casual restaurant looks over a little pond and is especially cozy in the winter. The outdoor seating is fun in the summer. They make my favorite gluten-free pizza (celiac) and are great for helping with food allergies in general too. We moved to another state and still make a point to get back here often when we are in the suburbs.

Like others, the food was good and it was a nice atmosphere– cool, shaded breeze near water with lots of trees. The service was INCREDIBLY slow. The pizza was yummy and a good value. We also got the pretzel bites which were good but very skimpy for the $10.50 price point. I would try somewhere else when going back to Long Grove.

This past November marked the very 1st time dining in at Joanie’s and most definitely won’t be the last.

Located in lovely downtown Long Grove, the locals are lucky to have this gem, I’m talking both excellent pizza and fried chicken.

My wife & I both really wanna come back here. I loved that pizza and my wife mentioned that was THE BEST fried chicken she’s ever had in her life.

Great service in an upscale but country feel, prices are reasonable and the venue kept very clean.

I always strive to support local and I hope for continued success & prosperity for the owner(s).

I hear the pizza is great. Specially I hear it’s the best Detroit style in the area. That may be, but my wife and I always go here for the broasted chicken. It did not disappoint today, and our son declared it the best chicken he’s ever had. That is why I’m leaving this review. Keep up the great work, Joanies!
