Visted J’s Family Restaurant for breakfast with a party of two around 11am on a Friday morning. We’d driven in from Salem very early to go to the Medical Center, so by 11am we were badly in need of coffee!
They weren’t too busy so we were seated right away, but it took a long time for a waitress to come to our table.
We ordered, and the food came out pretty quickly. After the food was served, we had to wait for further attention. Our server was nice enough and brought us what we needed, but it was our overall impression that things seem to move at their own, slower pace here so we just enjoyed our food and waited patiently when we needed something.
The food was good but not stellar. It was missing that “ummm” that some other establishments have. Maybe J’s use less sodium in their recipes? Maybe they spice things gently?
We’d eat here again. Next time we’ll be more mentally prepared to enjoy a leisurely experience.

The food was great hats off to the cooks and the bartenders with the great drinks, I got the prime rib and it was perfect, and the bloody marry was also pretty good. Our server was crap, Teresa O, I don’t even care to much about the mistakes made on our orders but she made us pay for food we never got argued with us about it so we ended up just paying for it.

Great experience! I ordered pancakes, coffee, and a veggie skillet, and everything was served hot and fresh. The food was delicious, and the service was quick and friendly.

This was a solid choice and we look forward to bringing family back. Lots of options and lovely staff. We ordered mozzarella sticks, two burgers, and a veggie skillet. Everything was great and particularly loved the battered fries. The brioche style buns were a tasty touch. Can see this becoming a favorite spot.
Edit: Brought the rest of the family back the next day for dinner. Ordered chicken and waffles, the chipotle burger, and the clubhouse. All were a hit. Highlight though, my brother-in-law has struggled to eat much after my sister passed away. The chicken and waffles was the first meal in almost six months I’ve seen him devour. That alone made my heart so happy.

First time at J’s. Had the veggie omelette and chicken sandwich at our table. Took home the whole strawberry pie. They gave me a whole can of whipping cream for the to go pie!!!! Service was great!

I had an experience, and I’m gonna rave about it!
A coworker recommended this place to me. All he had to say was, “breakfast all day” and I was in!
This place is the epitome of a cozy diner in every way! The service is phenomenal! The food is to die for and the ambience is conducive to pigging out!
Again, no shots of our meals out of respect as pictures cannot do them justice!
Believe me when I say, one of the best dining experiences in the PNW!
We will definitely be eating here again!

Our extended family of 20 came in to eat for a surprise birthday brunch, and the staff was absolutely amazing. Carl was so sweet and welcoming when we walked in, and our server Jackie did an incredible job taking care of us despite all the chaos. On top of that, the food was absolutely delicious. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Have been there a handful of times. It tends to be a busy place and at times orders are forgotten, delayed or messed up but the restaurant makes it up to the customer! They are always friendly and accommodating!!! Will continue to go to “J’s house” as my grand baby calls it.

Its a staple in Newberg OR. They have really good biscuits and gravy and bacon is always cooked the way I like it. My only complaints are biscuits are huge either needs cut in half or more gravy. But the flavor is fantastic! Also the inside needs to be updated and staff should smile more. Otherwise its fantastic and family friendly. We will always come back.

so this is one of those reviews that you almost had to be there to believe. I was having my truck worked on up the street so I thought I would grab some breakfast. I walked in the front door and after a longer than needed wait, I was shown to a table by an unfriendly elderly gentleman. Being an elderly person myself, thought anyone can have a bad day so let it be. I was seated and given a glass of water and a menu. After about a 10 minute wait I kept wondering if I was going to get coffee anytime in the near future so I started to watching the staff. About 15 minutes had gone by and I watch an older couple walk in carrying a dog. Yes, a dog. I thought to myself this isn’t a seeing eye dog as it is only about the size of a cat. I thought surely they would be told they couldn’t have a dog in a restaurant. Wow, was I wrong! The waitress must have known the couple because she started to pet the dog! Well, now maybe 20 or so minutes have gone by and I haven’t even been given a cup of coffee yet. I look at a guy at the table next to me, he shook his head and said to me looks like you need to go get your dog so you can get some service. I got up and left. I’m still a little stunned. So, if you want service at this restaurant, be sure to bring your pet with you.
Update: I received a response as you can read below. I guess I’m more concerned now than before. As you and I know, that was not a service animal. It was as small as a cat and was wearing no type of service dog markings. Be that as it may, are you saying even if it was a service animal your staff, while serving food to customers, would be allowed to pet the service animal and continue to serve food to other customers? You bring up state and federal laws, I guarantee you that is not abiding to state and federal laws, that’s breaking them.
