In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. I love coming to this BB every week or every other week. And the majority of my visits, I’ve had Jaay, as a waitress and she is absolutely amazing! A beautiful heart with a kind sweet spirit. Incredibly patient and super helpful and professional as well. I love all the waiters and waitresses there, they have all been so kind to me and the ppl I bring, but Jaay, definitely breaks the mold with her sweet disposition and demeanor. ❤️

I have been coming to Black Bear Diner for a long time, and every visit reinforces why it is one of my favorite spots. The food is consistently excellent, comforting, and full of flavor. The quality stays consistent, and it shows real care in how the food is prepared and served.

On my most recent visit, I had a genuinely kind conversation with one of the hosts whose name started with an N I believe but I do not remember her full name, but her warmth and attentiveness stood out right away. She took the time to check in, made me feel welcomed, and treated me like a regular who mattered. That moment reflected the tone of the whole team. Every staff member I interact with is friendly, patient, and professional, and the energy in the restaurant feels positive and welcoming.
I come here every weekend, sometimes by myself, sometimes with friends, and often with family. No matter who I am with, the experience is always solid and enjoyable. It is a place where you feel comfortable lingering, talking, and enjoying good food together. This Black Bear Diner delivers great meals, strong service, and a sense of familiarity that keeps me coming back again and again.

I expected more of an experience, but it gave me a Cracker Barrel feel. The wait time was a little long, but the staff was limited. I must mention Tanya because she made the wait time worth it. Excellent customer service, Tanya! The bacon was a hit, but the hash browns were not. The biscuit and gravy was dry and needed more gravy. The pancakes were thick and fluffy and seemed to be the breakfast staple.

The food here is the bomb busy restaurant but fast service. Try the pot roast melt it’s so fire. Also I had the bread pudding for dessert and it was delicious. Server was a beautiful blonde and she had a great attitude.

Had a lovely breakfast here on Sunday, October 26. They were extremely busy and still managed to give excellent service. My server Tanya was absolutely amazing! I could see all of the employees running around yet still attending their customers kindly and patiently. Met the manager while checking out and had a delightful conversation with him about his outstanding staff. I’ll definitely be back to this black bear diner location.

My girlfriend is a big fan of Black Bear Diner, so I had high expectations for a good meal and they hit the mark! The chicken fried steak was massive! And the biscuits & gravy was a meal on its own too. Very good food and our server was pleasant. Will be back soon!

Everything was good, but I have a few things here: your pancakes were very “sticky” and dense. I missed the fluffiness in them.
I like my grits thicker, but each to their own. These grits were too watery, imo.
Everything else was good. Presentation was very pleasant to the eyes.
What was absolutely best today was your service. Very kind, polite and attentive.

We had a waitress by the name of Xochitl, she was helpful and patient as it was our first time. She helped with the questions I had making an effort in making sure that she was giving the correct information, very happy which made our experience a joyful one. The food was a 20/10. The burgers were juicy, thick and full of flavor, the onion rings were handmade (I believe) as well as the sweet tea (I know for sure because our waitress made it from scratch) you can taste the freshness. The house salad was so good with the bacon ranch they serve with it. It was a great experience and even some of the other staff attended to our needs with joy and respect even though it wasn’t their table. Will be dining here again ASAP.

Great southern style food with big portions! Our server informed us that they make only a certain amount of pot pies each day. We were lucky enough to order one. When we went to order more pot pies as to-go orders they told us they had already sold out for the day. Definitely coming back to get those pot pies! Their pancakes were so fluffy and delicious. They were almost the size of the plate. We left super stuffed and satisfied! Coming back to visit!
