I take my family to Wasabi in Bozeman for birthdays and special occasions because the food is amazing every single time. From the fresh sushi rolls to the hibachi steak and chicken, there’s always something everyone loves, and you can tell the ingredients are top quality.

We usually make a reservation because it gets busy, especially on weekends, and the atmosphere is lively and fun — perfect for a celebration. The hibachi dishes are always cooked perfectly, and the sushi is fresh and flavorful with lots of options to choose from.

The staff are friendly and make every visit feel special, whether it’s a big family dinner or just a night out. It’s comfortable for both kids and adults, and it’s a great place to make memories together.

Overall, this is one of our go-to spots for celebrating because the food is delicious, the portions are generous, and it always hits the mark. Highly recommend if you want a fun meal and amazing food in Bozeman.

The manager was very rude to my son before we even sat down! We literally walked in the door the manager said we can only sit on this side of the restaurant, we explained we drove 2 hours because my son wanted to eat here. Than as we sat down he informed our waitress we had to order immediately and to make room for other customers. I finally had to just get in his face and asked his what the problem was and he finally backed off. He tried to explain it away as confusion with what we’re going to order. Had to tell him we didn’t even get our menus yet. Thankfully he left and we got to order our food in peace.

I have to acknowledge the waitress Claire, she was really great during all this and I gave her a very good tip.

The food was just ok, I would give it 4-5 out of 10. My wife is Asian and she can cook amazing Asian food. So the sushi was obvious not very fresh and was way too fishy smelling and tasting. This is from it being frozen for a long time or way past it date for freshness. The chicken was very dry and seemed like was dry from leaving it on a counter too long, which made it dry on one side. Noodles and vegetables were way soggy. I think the biggest problem was there was hardly any flavor, they didn’t use seasoning on most of the meats. I think they tried to rely on the sauce the pored on it. So basically I was tasting chicken with a tiny hint of flavoring.

If this is what the managers interpretation of Asian dishes, he’s not giving his customers the best quality food. I can name a few fast food Asian restaurants that have much higher quality food than this. I can’t believe I paid over $200 for our meal there, and realistically should have paid less than $100 for the quality including the tip.

The only thing going for the food was the presentation. Which was great, but all when away after the first bite. I would never recommend this restaurant because of the manager and the food. I think it’s way overpriced, and was just a horrible experience for my son’s birthday.

I’ve been to many Asian restaurants in my live and travels. I’m usually impressed because most restaurants are great. I have only given only one other bad review of another restaurant, which was a Mexican restaurant. I can safely say this is the worst reviewing our of hundreds of restaurants I’ve reviewed.

We used to come to Wasabi for all our family’s events, like birthdays, graduation dinners, and when guests are in town… We ate here again for my wife’s bday, and things seem to have gone drastically downhill. Service was mediocre, but now it seems like there is a mandatory 18% tip, which we HATE. We ordered a lot of food, and most of it was just not great. We are not Asian, Japanese, or even cooks, but we could make better food at home. The salad was inedible as it was water logged iceberg lettuce, and made a milky mess with the dressing that was served on it. When we mentioned this to the busser, he just smiled and shrugged and took the bowl away. We also had California rolls, and they were not constructed well, and kept falling apart, and were a disappointment in general. The entrees were a mix of of steak, chicken, and shrimp between our group. The chicken was low quality meat for sure, and rubbery. The shrimp was also firm and rubbery, and the steak was ok, but came in smaller chunks than previoulsy, and had some gristle to it. Everything was smothered in an overly sweet sauce to make up for the quality of meat. The miso soup, which we all used to love, is just watery and lacking in miso flavor now. Fried rice tasted off, like it was fried in butter or something? In general the amount of food we recieved for the price was not nearly enough.

Overall the price for this kind of quality was also outrageous. Something was dramatically different from this visit than our previous visits. We have eaten here since it has opened in this location, on both the hibachi and restaurant sides. I don’t think we will be eating here again. To pay this much for cheap gross food is just not worth it. And our mandatory tip was not worth it, people need to earn their money these days. We are officially over Wasabi after maybe 2 dozen visits over the years.

Honestly best happy hour in town. Get some hibachi. My chef Paul and my server with the big black hair were incredible. If you are looking for a beautiful experience in town stop here. You will not be disappointed.

We had a good experience here. We did the Hibachi which is always fun with fire, volcanoes and fun presentations while they cook the food. The waiter was nice, the menu had lots of options, the food was very good and the price was average for this kind of presentation. Lots of birthdays here so be aware of the drums. We will definitely come back again.

Having been to almost a dozen different Japanese steakhouses I have to say, this one really cares about all points of your experience. From greeting to serving to the show from the chefs to the portion sizes and prices, everything here is delicious fun and fair. The manager is clearly happy to be there and enjoys making sure people leave happy. Every question is answered and any potential concerns squashed before they can blossom. Their recipes are from scratch and sure, Ive had better sauces but theirs is good and minor recipe preference won’t deter me from coming back here whenever the craving hits. 10/10

I’m really torn on this review. Unsure whether to give 3 stars as benefit of the doubt or 2 stars. I hate giving poor reviews.

Staff was great. Mostly the food wasn’t terrible. Took my 14 year old daughter to Wasabi for her birthday dinner. Neither of us had been there before. I’ve been craving sushi for a while. I figured a Japanese steak house that serves sushi should be safe, right?

I’d heard mixed feedback on Wasabi from friends and coworkers.

I ordered spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, and spicy salmon as a combo meal from the entree menu. See photos attached to review. Presentation was disappointing. The fish… was colorless. You literally cannot identify the fish as being different. Honestly, they tasted the same too. And, as a guy who likes very simple sushi without lots of extra flavors, sushi grade Tuna doesn’t have a distinct taste. What I ate here tasted like canned tuna. Like, when you make a tuna sandwich. If I wanted a tuna fish and rice roll I could make it at home. This is not sushi grade fish that I was served. And if you look close you can tell the fish was minced and mixed with something. Seriously. The lunch sushi boxes at the local grocery stores is better. I’m not exaggerating. Oh. There’s also nothing “spicy” about these spicy rolls.

The miso soup. That was unimpressive as well. Not terrible. But certainly not a good miso.

The kids seemed to like their meals just fine. They all left full. I did not try their food so I can’t review that.

The men’s room. There’s a reason the lights are on a dimmer. The walls above the urinal are disgusting. Do people spit on the walls in there often? Or have they never, ever been washed? I left the men’s room thinking one thing. You can tell a lot about a restaurant’s kitchen by its bathroom.

This is not fine dining. The table tops look worn in the center. The fake bamboo plants between seating sections look like PVC pipes painted green with 80s style plastic leafs stuck in them.

We didn’t get to experience the hibachi table since we didn’t have a reservation. Hopefully that would have at least added some fun to it.

The best thing about my visit was having a Madison River Brewery beer in a Madison River Brewery glass.

In the end. I can say I’ve been to Wasabi. But I can also say I don’t have a desire to go back.
