The place seems small from the outside but it is actually big inside. It is nicely decorated and actually gives me a Buddhist temple vibes which is also very appropriate for it’s food offerings.
Since it was our first time there, we ordered their most popular dishes. We had the crispy beef, fried chicken, walnut shrimps, crispy eggplant and egg custard. Mind you, everything here is vegan so no animal products at all. We were really curious as to how the food will taste but we were quite impressed especially with the shrimps. If I didn’t know that this was a vegan restaurant, I would have thought that I was eating real shrimps. The taste and texture was on point. Everything was good. The fried chicken which was actually made with mushrooms was formed into chicken legs and they were crispy and good. The crispy beef was very good as well and the egg custard was crave worthy with light and flaky crust.
Definitely a restaurant worth trying if you have not tried a vegan restaurant yet. It doesn’t matter if you are vegan or not as long as you like good food.
We even had the pleasure to meet the owner Chef Kenny on our way out.
Literally everything was absolutely amazing for vegan!
1. Crispy beef was by far the best item the have there and what makes good was because it was half off. Crispy, flavorful and tasty!
The bbq buns was very flavorful.
Walnut shrimp is crispy, fresh and simply delicious!
The fried green bean is good.
2. The price is amazing.
3. Quantity is amazing for what you pay
4. The staff here are super nice!
5. The place is very nice and beautiful
I tried to ask about the ingredients in individual meal options as someone who has particular dietary restrictions. The waitress did not seem to know about ANY of the ingredients in the dishes. I asked what vegetables came inside dishes, and she told me “vegetables”. She seemed very impatient and eager to hurry up and go do something else while I was trying to ask questions about the menu. The responses to my questions were very quick and snappy; which made me feel like I was being yelled at.
Then, another gentleman came to our table to assist us. I asked him instead (as, earlier, I had seen the waitress from before go and talk to him, they were both looking at our table when they were talking). So I assumed that he would have some more knowledge and would be a bit kinder about my dietary restrictions, but he gave me the exact same answers.
Not only did he give the same answers, but when I asked questions about the fried rice and what seasonings/sauce they had, his response was “Have you never had fried rice before?!”, which was snappy. Of course I have but every place does fried rice differently. There’s no way for me to know what I’m going to get everytime I go to a new restaurant!!!! He asked me if i had some issues and I specified that I had dietary restrictions and would like to see if I can order around them. His response to this was “Then I don’t know how to help you. Just order some steamed vegetables or something.” Just very rude and inconsiderate. I know what I can and can’t eat; i’m asking the people that work there if they can help me order based on what i CAN eat. Which seemed to be a lot of what was on their menu but they weren’t communicating that very well because they didn’t have the knowledge.
Other than that, the food was okay. It’s flavorful but not to a level that its too much, especially for someone who can’t have a lot of seasonings or sauces (me).
Id order from here again knowing that their food is good, but I don’t want to go through that process of trying to figure out what I could eat with them again. It was aggressive and felt isolating.
Update: Their food ended up triggering my condition (gastritis) that requires dietary restrictions in the first place!!!! I do not think I’d go back and would much rather make it at home or even eat meat. Review went from 3 stars to 1 star.
I’ve eaten at plenty of vegan restaurants and this place is my top three. I’m from LA and will definitely travel for the food any day, any time! It’s not chewy, the seasoning is amazing everything is good! We had the the magnolia steak, orange chicken, fried rice, chow main, cheese wonton Thai tea! It’s all highly recommended!!!!! Everything is amazing! Why this place isn’t in LA is very depressing!
