I have been going to J & L breakfast house sense I can remember and won’t be back until the cook position changes hands. Today this place only gets 1 star and would get negative stars if it was an option. As always, I always eat the same thing when I go in there which is the western omelet, wheat toast, 2 sides of bacon, hash browns extra crispy. Nothing was good about any of it today. The egg omelet looked fine on the outside but tasted funny so I unfolded it to find that the first side to touch the grill was burnt and that side was rolled to the inside so it couldn’t be seen and burnt eggs just taste bad. Now we all know the difference between hash browns and potato cakes. These hash browns came today, brown on the outside and mush on the inside, and flat like they had been smashed down with a spatula. The wheat toast came over toasted, and hard as a rock, and didn’t even look like it was buttered, and had to ask for more butter, and more jelly. Why do they think just one of those little jelly tubs will cover two slices of toast, it barely covers one slice. The bacon at this place appears to be precooked ahead of time and is cold and hard as a rock. The only thing that had any temp to it today was the coffee. The sign taped to the register says the tips go to the cook and when ask about a tip I said not if it’s going to the cook, so no tip today.

I’ve been to a lot of places for breakfast. And by far this is thee worse place atmosphere wise. There was a child that was absolutely outta control. The parents didn’t help by laughing at everything he did. Everyone was obviously annoyed and the servers and staff don’t even bother helping the situation out. Didn’t even try the food. But the inside has a smell of a casino that just wouldn’t go away. Can’t enjoy food with smelling cigarettes. I’m sorry but I just wouldn’t want anyone going through what I did.

J&L Breakfast! I want to start by saying the three stars I’m giving this restaurant isn’t representing the entire menu or prices. I would really give it 31/2 stars if I could, but I feel I would need to go back for another time to up the stars.
The prices are pretty darn good for what you get! I had a breakfast platter of two eggs, toast, bacon, has browns and pancakes for only 8-9$! That’s gooood! The service was great! No complaints. I didn’t like the very quiet room though, aside people chatting, it was weird! It could be because we were in late morning for breakfast? But a little soothing music would have been nice!
The food, while plentiful, was a little bland. I definitely understand salt and pepper was available but the hash browns were terribly bland, like almost tasting like water. The pancakes were not the best, but okay, and the bacon while I love thick slices, were a little too greasy? Like I was tasting grease and bacon if that makes sense. If the pancakes were done right, everything else could be overlooked easily ha. I also understand everyone’s preferences are different so it’s hard to find that middle ground.
I’m sure there is more to this nice place than what I had so don’t take this review too hard, I’ve only been here once! I’ll update when I revisit! And again great service!

Great little gem, wonderful food. I highly recommend stopping by and checking this place out. I have stepped in and they are not very busy and I have stopped in and they are extremely busy. Either way it’s worth the time to check them out.

Sadly table next to us seated mother and 3 small children that were “fussy” Other than that we were seated served and had our meal Promptly. Enjoyed very good service even though there was quite a bit of noise and activity.

This quaint SMALL diner will surprise you on many levels. One; the staff is super friendly!
The place is quick, uses fresh produce, and the plates, utensils are clean.
This place doesn’t go without having its issues, repairs needing done. The parking lot is always full but is in need of repair.
The pricing is a bit higher than other mom and pop shops, but, it’s the quality of the food you get prompting you to overlook the pricing.
Pies, pies and more pies is available which is always a favorite of mine. I don’t like going into a place who has pie on the menu but no pie to serve.
The pancakes were overcooked (hard to cut) but paired with their syrup encouraged us to finish them off.
The ketchup had a weird taste… not sure of the brand, but, it wasn’t a national brand imo. It might have been a knock off brand. Yuck!
The menu is 7 pages long.
The bathroom was 90 degrees when we visited, clean… but could use a good floor scrubbing.
This place also sells various home decor items… hopefully you love mirrors, this place has walls of them.
Give them a shot!

My mom’s been coming here since she met my dad 13 years ago. Always a wonderful time and family centered. Ladies are always nice and my mom’s coffee cup never stays low for long. No other restaurants in town give the atmosphere they do.

Back to the classic J&L. No appt needed, great service, tasty large portions, great with special requests and even on it without having to say anything. My daughter said it’s so good her belly is so full and made her belly look like a beach ball. My son said it was very good and made his stomach filled with a basket ball, Beach ball, every ball. No one in the family left hungry and 5 people ate for under $50. It was canned gravy, though. 🙁
