From the beginning, I heard mixed opinions about this spot — some people swore it was great, others said it wasn’t worth it, so I decided to see for myself.
When I first arrived, the atmosphere stood out immediately. It definitely has more of a “hood spot” vibe than a fine dining one, so if you’re looking for a high-quality date night restaurant, this isn’t it. But that doesn’t mean the food isn’t worth it — if you just want to chill, relax, or grab something flavorful outside of your normal routine, this is the kind of place to try.
The restaurant itself is small and was packed when I came in, so I chose to order my food to-go. Since it was my first visit, one of the associates was very helpful and walked me through the menu to find something that suited me. I ended up ordering the wing and tender combo, the tilapia and wing combo, lemonade, and two desserts — the banana pudding and the key lime red velvet cake.
Now, I’ll say this upfront: skip the desserts. They were not good, and I later learned they aren’t made in-house — they’re outsourced from another company. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll want to grab dessert elsewhere.
The food itself, though, was impressive. The wings and fish were crispy, flavorful, and satisfying without being overly greasy. It gave me that comforting “home-cooked” feel without the effort of actually cooking. The lemonade was also really good — even though it didn’t taste freshly squeezed, it had a nice flavor and you can even choose different add-in flavors depending on what you’re in the mood for.
Overall, the food definitely hit the spot for me. I wouldn’t recommend dining in just because of how small and crowded the space can get, but for takeout or a laid-back meal, this is a must-try.

the only one thing I don’t like is getting a slice of bread instead of hush puppies got to have hush puppies with fish.
It could be a little nerve-wracking because it’s a very popular place and you can get a decent plate for under $10 but it really depends on what you get so it’s around $8 to $15. Definitely would love to go back back keep up the great work ..

We ordered wings for a party and they were a hit! We had a fish dinner too and it was good. It was pretty busy, but the staff were calm, helpful, and kind. The customers waited patiently and we talked amongst ourselves…that’s how you know the food is good. Nobody minds waiting a few minutes for good food.

However, my cousin made me realize that one employee although can destroy a business I shouldn’t allow one experience to destroy my opinion of this business. They really have great food here and it’s consistent. But I still feel like you need to get rid of that One Bad Apple

Went to J&J Fish on Evans Mill Rd. This time the fish and fries were terrible which I did not discover until I got home. Everything was nothing but grease. One piece was so over-cooked and full of grease it was hard as a rock. No more for me. They used to be good it have gone to the dogs. The fries evidently were sitting in grease for an extended period of time, bite into it…nothing but grease. Nobody have money to throw away. I had to throw it away, I’m not trying to get sick! My advice, go to the grocery store and cook your own, it couldn’t be worse than theirs!!

I’m from California so first off when I got whole wings I was in shock. Secondly the flavor was wonderful. I fell in love with the crab bites. I could eat a bunch of them alone. Nice large pieces of fish as well. It was so good I ordered it again from DoorDash the next day.
