On this visit, we enjoyed cocktails: Bitter Cherry (A Manhattan with smoke) and Tie One On (Mai Tai-esque). Starters were: Kale Caesar, Spring Snap Pea Salad, Clam Chowder, and Pork Belly. Our mains were: Rigatoni (Veggie) and the Pork Chop. YUM!!! (Note: Photos from both visits.)
The restaurant was sparsely populated for a Friday early dinner time. The atmosphere was nice. Tables were spaced apart to allow privacy of conversation.
Our server was fantastic – attentive, friendly, helpful in answering questions. He noticed I was not drinking my drink, asked if I didn’t care for it, and took it off the bill.
We ordered two mocktails. The Root Awakening was pleasantly gingery and enjoyable. The Trailblazer, which I wasn’t charged for, was vile and undrinkable.
The truffle fries were the absolute highlight. They were crisp, perfectly seasoned, and served piping hot. The serving was quite generous.
The rest of our dinner items were severely undercooked. The pork tenderloin was completely raw in the large middle section, gray on the outside, and served over a bed a tasteless vegetables. There was no salt and pepper at the table.
The brussel sprouts were bright green, with a minimal char on one side. It was like eating mini raw cabbages.
The buttermilk brined chicken and brown sugar waffle also disappointed. The serving was large. The chicken strips however were undercooked in the middle. The waffle had no discernible brown sugar taste and was also undercooked and floppy. The waffle was cold and the ball of butter on it had no chance of melting.
The pumpkin smore dessert came with one of the meals. We had mixed feelings about the pumpkin element, ranging from good to weird. The brownie was very rich, but also just a basic brownie. We had to look at the menu later to determine what was on top. Our guess was marshmallow crème that was burned on top. The menu describes toasted black cardamom meringue.
We took the leftovers, which was most of the food actually, thinking we could finish cooking it at home. We changed our minds though and just tossed it.
We enjoy trying places we haven’t been to before or recently, but this is one we can cross off the list.
