Russ Restaurants – The Homemade Goodness People for over 87 years! J. Russel Bouws began operating his first restaurant in 1934 at the age of 21 in Holland, Michigan. Over the years he grew his restaurant, including franchises owned by Howard De Haan in the Kent County area between the 1960’s and 2000’s. Over time, Russ’ brother Gord and Russ’ sons John and Bryan joined him along the way. The family grew the business into 12 locations. The standards have always been to keep the cost low for the customer and to deliver a homemade meal. Currently, Bryan’s family is operating the 12 locations along with their wonderful staff!

The first half of our visit was great. The food was delicious, and I have no complaints about that. What did bother us was the server’s attitude. She was incredibly attentive up until she heard me refer to my trans partner with their pronouns. If pronouns bother you so badly in conversations you aren’t even apart of, you shouldn’t be in food service.

After this, she spoke with everyone around us but barely glossed over our table. We couldn’t even flag her down with direct eye contact and a friendly wave in our attempt to order dessert and other food. She gave us further attitude when I attempted to pay for our group rather than on separate checks.

Respect goes both ways, regardless of age or otherwise.

The servers & kitchen staff at this location are true gems! My son has food allergies, which require lots of questions, cross-checking ingredients & special requests. We’re not the easiest customers to work with, as our orders generally aren’t quick. They were completely accommodating & showed us so much patience. They even went as far as printing off a list of ingredients for my son to see if he could try something new, which he could! 8 years old & never had a fried pickle until today, he was SO happy! They absolutely did not have to take the time to do that but as a mother, I am so so thankful for it. You made both of our days & we absolutely will be back!

Had a lunch meeting today with the whole group. (10+). Our waitress was great! Pleasant & helpful. Everybody enjoyed their meals. We all indulged in desserts. Prices were very reasonable. Will definitely be back again. ♥️

Pretty good meals. Been to the one in North Muskegon many times and this one did not disappoint. Will definitely go again.

I was disappointed in the biscuits and gravy. The gravy tastes like it was canned. It was definitely not homemade :/ service & atmosphere is always great. The food was mediocre. Perhaps just my choice though. Still a great place to go on a budget

My family just left there from having dinner. Cold fries, meat not cooked to order, food on wrong plates mixed up, apology after apology at 3 different tables. Complaints from nearby tables with the same problems. Lasagna cold in the middle ( mothers dinner )
Went to cashier to pay our bill, and the lady cashier absolutely was disgusted that we even tried to explain the situation we encountered there. She slammed her hands on the counter and said there’s nothing they can do about it, and obviously we didn’t see how busy they are. BS !!!
Then on the way out she commented ( HAVE A MERY CHRISTMAS ) twice very cocky.and very very unprofessional.
We have gone to Russ’ since I was a kid. And this Russ’ here on Division ave wyoming mi is the worst service of employees and dinner I’ve EVER EVER had. This post is very true to the tee, and if it was video taped in their restaurant, everyone would just plain be disgusted with it.

So I absolutely used to love their turkey club sandwich with honey mustard on it instead of mayonnaise but for whatever reason the last three times I’ve gone to the drive-thru they have a very very hard time understanding this and they give me a dry sandwich, with the honey mustard on the side in a tiny little container.I can’t even eat it. I have to go home to finish making it.
I posted a pic a year and a half ago about my beautiful sandwich and crispy onion rings it was the last time I had a picture perfect sandwich and crispy onion rings there. They’ve been so limp lately.
I’m so sad!

It’s your hometown, around the corner, down the street place. This is comfort food that doesn’t surprise you. It’s exactly what it claims to be without any pretense. Don’t come here trying to make it anything more than that! And I visit about once or twice a month to just sit, relax, and eat in peace. Try the fish and chips. It’s all you can eat on Wednesday.

The Blue burger was delicious! I love that they cook the burger the way you want it, most restaurants won’t. Their onion rings are my favorite out of any restaurants. The fried pickles were horrible! Literally no pickles, and the sliver of pickles that were in them were fried to nothing. The service was fantastic!
