I’ve been going here for YEARS with my parents and once I turned 18 I started coming on my own. For the past year I’ve noticed the same older lady with the bangs always bring us our check way ahead of time not even considering if we are talking or mid bite of our first plate she will set the check down then stand above us and stare at us until we hand over our cards. I’ve told her multiple times I have food on my hands, I’m mid bite, we aren’t done eating and she still continues to stand above our table and make us pull out our cards. And this hasn’t happened just once it happens EVERYTIME. i come in very often and never once have not paid my bill so I’m confused as to why she feel the need to stand above my food until I grab my card. Then when I don’t tip because that’s rude and very pushy she will scoff at me and throw my copy of my receipt in my face. I love their food and I’ve noticed no other issues except for when she’s our server. I’ve always been a big advocate for tipping but to shove the check in my face then force me to hand my card over right that second then act like you not getting a tip was my fault is absolutely insane. This place needs to get their service fixed asap.

This is just an average Chinese buffet. The restaurant was warm and very humid. I was told that the tea was free, but it ended up costing money. For $15, the food was just average. There was a decent variety, but most of the food didn’t taste really fresh (especially the sushi). Plus, there were no crab legs. Getting there earlier than 7:30pm may have made a difference. It’s best to go to these places when they’re really busy so that the food isn’t sitting around for a long time.

Myself and my bff went here to eat for the first time on 30 Nov 2023 for lunch. Really enjoyed the variety of food available. I haven’t eaten a Chinese buffet in a very long time. Just moved from NC and didn’t waste my time to bother searching out one of my favorite foods. I was really surprise for so many negative reviews. Either I was hungry, or the food was just great that day. The atmosphere was nice. Staff was friendly. Real pleasant place to stop in to eat in such a small town. Price was affordable. The restaurant was clean. I would visit again. This Army veteran was nice and full, oh sleepy.

Back again, Thursday 14Dec 2023. This was my second time being here. Either I was starving, or the food was just damn good. After spending the day at the VA clinic in Cadillac, MI. I had to go somewhere to re-energize and full my belly. This was my goto choice. The place was pretty packed, and the food was hot. Many choices. My only complaint is that the sushi is not labeled for someone who doesn’t do raw food. Besides that it was a good time.

27 January 2024 visited China one buffet for dinner. The food was hot and fresh. Our hostess was awesome. Every time we go here, it’s always a very nice welcome. I enjoy military discounts for every visit. The staff are friendly and efficient. The sushi is one of my favorites. Egg drop soup is always fresh. All in all it’s a pleasant place to go eat in such a small town.
27 February 2024 Back from chytown, eating some really great food. I’m back home for a few days. Of course, I had to hit my Chinese buffet today. The food was fresh and tasty as always. The wait staff is still friendly.

Sometimes it’s a hit or miss with this place, but it’s usually “ok” depending on what time of day you go. They have basic sushi and basic lo mein. The shrimp in white coconut sauce is absolutely delicious if it’s fresh.

I’ve been going here for probably over ten years and it’s always consistent. It’s a 10/10 every time, but it is also really nostalgic for me, so that could influence my opinion haha. Staff is attentive with refills and the food is always amazing! I love going here and look forward to the next time we go every time!

I had been told that this place wasn’t great but it’s the only Chinese around here and I didn’t feel like driving out of town so I decided to take a chance and I regret it.

I ordered takeout so I can’t comment on the location itself, but this was the most bland Chinese food I have ever had. It felt like it had no seasoning whatsoever. There were no sauces included. The meat was chewy and seemed unidentifiable.
The egg roll was the tiniest, saddest egg roll i’ve ever seen.

Plus, it was expensive! they’re charging an insane amount for a side of small white rice.

Skip this place.

I stopped in at China One Buffet recently and while the restaurant itself was clean and the staff reasonably polite, the food was a big disappointment. The selection looked decent at first glance, but most of it had clearly been sitting out for too long. Some dishes were starting to change color, the fish was rubbery, and overall the food lacked flavor.

Service was just okay — nothing terrible, but nothing that stood out either. I actually had to walk up to the counter to pay because my waitress never brought me a check, which made the experience feel a little unfinished.

If you’re looking for a tidy place to sit down, this is fine, but if you’re hoping for fresh, tasty food, this buffet falls short.

China One Buffet in Big Rapids, MI, is the kind of place that delivers exactly what you want from a proper buffet experience—hot, fresh food, a wide variety of options, and service that operates with near-military precision.

A group of work friends and I initially planned to grab takeout but wisely chose to dine in. A break from the office was well worth it. The buffet stations were consistently stocked, ensuring there was never an empty tray. Every dish was hot and fresh, a rarity for some buffets. The only mild mishap was one unfortunate diner underestimating the temperature of a bacon-wrapped bite—though, if anything, this speaks to the kitchen’s dedication to serving food at optimal temperatures.

I piled my plate high with their green beans, cooked in a style I describe as distinctly Chinese—simple, flavorful, and addictively good. General Tso’s chicken was rich and saucy, delivering just the right balance of sweet and spice. While I can’t confirm the origins of the General’s recipe, I can tell you it’s certainly not from the Colonel. The pepper steak was well-prepared, and in a strategic move, I borrowed some broccoli from the chicken and broccoli dish, a maneuver I highly recommend for boosting vegetable intake.

One of the more mysterious, yet delightful, items was a spring roll filled with a meat pâté-like filling. I didn’t know exactly what I was eating, but I did know I wanted more of it. Using green beans as a base instead of rice proved to be an excellent choice, keeping the meal lighter and preventing an afternoon energy crash.

The service was exemplary. The staff moved with sniper-like accuracy, ensuring my ice water was never empty—I have never felt more hydrated at a restaurant.

The environment was clean, though the restaurant has seen younger days. It has been around for years, and I don’t think I’ve seen a change.

China One Buffet checks all the necessary boxes—solid food quality, exceptional service, and an experience that delivers on expectations. I’ll absolutely be back, green beans first, mystery spring roll second. If you’re looking for a buffet that gets it right, this is one worth visiting.
